Actor Park Bo-gum revealed the behind-the-scenes of preparing for 'Young Gwan-sik'.

On the 24th, an interview was held with actor Park Bo-gum, the main actor of Netflix's 'When Life Gives You Tangerines', at the Conrad Seoul Hotel.

'When Life Gives You Tangerines' is a work that unravels the adventurous lives of 'spunky rebel' Ae-sun (played by IU) and 'clumsy iron' Gwan-sik (played by Park Bo-gum), born in Jeju in the 1960s, across the four seasons. It has received praise for bringing together writer Im Sang-chun, recognized for works like 'When the Camellia Blooms' and 'Fight for My Way', and director Kim Won-seok, acclaimed for meticulous direction in 'My Mister', 'Signal', and 'Misaeng', creating another well-made production.

This drama, planned as a 16-episode series, is structured into four acts, each with four parts, according to the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Among them, Park Bo-gum plays the young version of the male protagonist Gwan-sik, showcasing the fresh and passionate love between Ae-sun and Gwan-sik in the first act.

Park Bo-gum recalled his efforts to portray Gwan-sik, saying, "In this work, I remember the makeup team applied a very dark foundation all over, from my face to my feet. They made sure every visible skin area was darker and thicker. Since I've lived in Jeju for a long time, they tried to create a look that felt sun-kissed."

He continued, "I also gained a significant amount of weight. Although I might look more solid than expected, my face appears a bit slimmer. I gained about 4 to 5 kg." He added with a laugh, "It was nice to eat a lot. Exercising wasn’t easy."

He also spoke about his concerns regarding his screen time. Park Bo-gum mentioned, "I knew the amount of my screen time going in," adding, "Many people miss my short hairstyle from the past, and I think, ‘If only more of the young version of Gwan-sik had come out, it would have been more interesting and enjoyable.’ Given that this piece portrays the lives of two people, I believe all the actors might feel the same way."

When asked about the future screen time of 'Young Gwan-sik' in the fourth act, he said, "He comes out. I haven't checked the time, but it will be memorable. People will think, ‘Ah, there was a young Gwan-sik!’ I believe Gwan-sik is a golden character to me. So the young Gwan-sik will soon be the middle-aged Gwan-sik, and he is all Gwan-sik. I hope you will see him beautifully."
