The group New Jeans will officially appear in public today (23rd) at ComplexCon in Hong Kong, amid difficulties in independent activities due to a court's decision.
New Jeans will grant at the 'ComplexCon Hong Kong' event held at AsiaWorld-Expo Hong Kong on the afternoon of the 23rd. Initially, New Jeans planned to reveal their new team name NJZ last month and make their debut as NJZ at 'ComplexCon Hong Kong'.
However, on the 21st, the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 50 (Presiding Judge Kim Sang-hoon) accepted ADOR's request for a provisional injunction, which was filed against the five members of New Jeans for 'prohibition of maintaining agency status and signing advertising contracts.'
According to the court's ruling, which states, "Members should not engage in entertainment activities on their own (including through legal representatives) or through third parties without prior approval or consent from ADOR," New Jeans members have been blocked from using their new name 'NJZ' and from independent activities.
In response to the ruling, ADOR noted, "We deeply appreciate the wise judgment of the provisional injunction court. As ADOR has legally confirmed its status as the agency for New Jeans, we will fulfill our responsibilities in supporting the artists moving forward."
However, New Jeans responded, "This decision did not adequately consider the complete breakdown of trust that the members have in ADOR," adding, "There is also an ongoing lawsuit regarding the validity of the exclusive contract between ADOR and the members, and we will reaffirm that the contract was legally terminated at the hearing scheduled for April 3rd. We will continue to fight this.”
New Jeans members announced that they will attend ComplexCon as scheduled, and ADOR also stated, "This performance will be fully supported on site under the name of New Jeans belonging to ADOR."
As a result, New Jeans members are unable to use the name NJZ, and independent activities such as releasing new songs have become difficult. However, they continue to communicate through their newly created NJZ account and mentioned in an exclusive interview with TIME that they find the court's ruling "disappointing," stating that they did not expect the issues in the K-pop industry to change overnight.
There are concerns that the continuing actions of New Jeans may adversely affect the ongoing lawsuits.
Meanwhile, ahead of the event, New Jeans stated, "We arrived in Hong Kong safely," and added, "Since we are performing on stage after a long time, let's enjoy it together. We can turn even difficult times into joyful memories because we have our Bunnies. Honestly, I'm already nervous about the stage tomorrow. Still, I hope my love for the stage will be conveyed with sincerity."
