Will Kim Soo-hyun, who is embroiled in a privacy controversy, resume activity by attending a fan meeting in Taiwan? Or will the situation be serious enough for the organizers to cancel the event? Amid this growing interest, the organizers have stated they will proceed with the event.
According to Taiwanese media ETtoday on the 21st (local time), Kim Soo-hyun is expected to attend the 'Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival' fan meeting hosted by a convenience store in Taiwan on the 30th.
Kim Soo-hyun, who recently suspended his activities due to a privacy controversy, may see the Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival event at the end of this month become his first official appearance. The controversy caused the broadcast of MBC's 'Good Day' he is participating in to be canceled today (22nd). However, the fan meeting organizers emphasized a few days ago that "the event is still being held according to contract."
The Chenjian branch, which oversees the cherry blossom festival, announced that the 2025 Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival event will be held from the 28th to the 30th. Police will deploy 50 personnel to maintain security at the venue and prepare for emergencies.
The police stated that the deployment of police forces was not planned "for Kim Soo-hyun," and the organizers did not present any additional requirements. However, 50 police officers are expected to be deployed for the fan meeting.
According to the regulations of the Kaohsiung Cherry Blossom Festival, tickets for the Kim Soo-hyun fan meeting will be distributed by lottery, and only individuals aged 18 and over can participate. The organizers selected 200 attendees through a pre-lottery for the fan meeting scheduled to last approximately 40 minutes. The admission fee is reported to be free, excluding the cherry blossom festival participation fee.
Although Kim Soo-hyun suffered a significant blow to his image due to the privacy controversy, the organizers stated that the event would proceed as scheduled. However, the focus is on whether it can proceed smoothly. The organizers explained, "Since the tickets were won for free, should the fan meeting schedule change or be canceled, attendees cannot request discounts, transfers, resales, exchanges, or refunds from the organizers."
Criticism is pouring in toward the local Taiwanese organizers and Kim Soo-hyun. Among other things, there is a surge in requests for refunds for cherry blossom festival tickets. However, the Taiwan Consumer Council has stated, "Since the cherry blossom festival is not a personal concert, refunds are difficult."
The organizers have indicated their position to proceed with the event, but the possibility of cancellation is also considered high. According to the local industry, if the event were to be canceled, the penalty would be approximately 30 million yuan (around 13.2 billion won).
Kim Soo-hyun has recently suffered a significant blow to his image, such as the termination of contracts with brands he is modeling for due to a privacy controversy. Given that the organizers are proceeding with the event, it remains to be seen whether he will attend the fan meeting in Taiwan.
