The independent activities of New Jeans members claiming to terminate their exclusive contract have been halted. The court sided with ADOR's request for a provisional injunction, imposing restrictions on their activities as NJZ. Consequently, plans for performances and new song releases as NJZ are expected to be disrupted.
On the 14th, the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of ADOR's request for a provisional injunction against New Jeans members (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haein, and Haein) regarding the 'protection of agency status and prohibition of advertising contract signing.' The judgment indicates they should not engage in independent activities while in a dispute over the exclusive contract with ADOR.
As the court sided with ADOR, the five members of New Jeans have become unable to engage in activities as the new group NJZ.
Ultimately, the five members of New Jeans, who were claiming unilateral contract termination with ADOR at a press conference, will also be unable to engage in activities as NJZ for the time being. The five members of New Jeans had previously announced the activity name NJZ after soliciting suggestions last month.
In particular, the five members of New Jeans began their independent actions while announcing the NJZ activity name. Early last month, they were listed in the lineup for 'ComplexCon Hong Kong,' held at AsiaWorld-Expo from March 21 to 23. The organizers drew attention by announcing the appearance of 'NJZ (formerly New Jeans)' shortly before.
Member Minji noted, 'I am very excited to be able to show a new look on stage for the first time as NJZ. This stage is a very important moment, and I eagerly await the opportunity to share the new music I've wanted to show worldwide with fans.'
Furthermore, they revealed through a live broadcast with fans that they plan to release a new song and debut track as NJZ on March 23. This indicates a move toward independent activities regardless of the legal dispute with ADOR. However, with the court ruling a prohibition on independent activities before the performance and new song release, there is significant interest in how they will respond.
On Nov. 28 last year, the five members of New Jeans held an urgent press conference declaring that ADOR violated its obligations under the exclusive contract. Following that, the five members began independent activities as NJZ after fulfilling their scheduled commitments, and ADOR sought to legally confirm the validity of the exclusive contract by filing a lawsuit at the Seoul Central District Court. As the court sided with ADOR, their legal battle is expected to continue in the main lawsuit.
