"There are witty and playful elements hidden everywhere… it's a song that paints an overall visual."
BTS member J-Hope will release his new song "MONA LISA" on the 21st at 1 p.m. (Korean time). He will drop this year's second digital single about two weeks after the release of the digital single "Sweet Dreams (feat. Miguel)" on the 7th.
Ahead of the new song release, J-Hope explained "MONA LISA" through his agency, Big Hit Music, noting it is a performance song he is presenting after a long time. He added, "I prepared it with a gift-like feeling in mind for ARMY (the fandom) who want to see performances. I am also very excited," expressing his thoughts.
J-Hope pointed out the listening points directly. "This song has a lot of witty lyrics, so you can enjoy it easily and funly. There are witty and playful elements everywhere, like various sound effects inserted in the song. I think it will be more enjoyable if you find those parts and listen carefully," he said.
J-Hope conveyed that this song is particularly meaningful to him because he participated directly in its production. "When I first heard the song, it was so good, but I thought I might have difficulty digesting it. However, while working in Los Angeles, I modified and recorded it to fit me, and surprisingly, it matched really well. And it naturally painted an overall visual, which left me satisfied," he added.
Lastly, he expressed, "This song was completed after several revisions. I wanted to show you a different side of J-Hope. I worked joyfully thinking about the day I could enjoy this song with ARMY. And now it seems that moment has come, and I am happy. I sincerely thank and love ARMY who always believe in and wait for me," revealing his affectionate feelings.
"MONA LISA" is a hip hop R&B genre song that playfully unravels the situation of being captivated by an attractive person. It harmonizes with a groovy rhythm, funky chords, and a bubbly sound reminiscent of refreshing carbonated drinks. The sing-along chorus in the latter part maximizes the cheerful atmosphere.
The title is derived from Leonardo da Vinci's work and a masterpiece of the century, "Mona Lisa." It metaphorically expresses a song of praise towards an attractive counterpart, likening it to the masterpieces that captured people's hearts. He sings that what stirs someone's heart is not external beauty but the uniqueness each person has.
Through this new song, one can witness the true capabilities of J-Hope, who is the Director General of the choreography for BTS and a "world-class" performer. He presents choreography in "MONA LISA" that captures a hip vibe and a chill feeling.
Meanwhile, J-Hope will showcase the stage for "MONA LISA" on the 22nd at 6 p.m. on Mnet's digital studio M2's official YouTube channel, "STUDIO CHOOM." On the 23rd and 24th, he will continue his solo world tour "j-hope Tour 'HOPE ON THE STAGE'" at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City.
