Lee Byeong-hun from 'The Match' revealed the reactions of his wife, son, father-in-law, and other family members who watched the movie.
On the morning of the 21st, an interview with Lee Byeong-hun, the lead actor of the film 'The Match,' took place at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
The movie 'The Match' (directed by Kim Hyung-joo, provided and distributed by Vipo M Studio Co., Ltd., produced by Film Company Wolgwang Co., Ltd., co-produced by BH Entertainment) depicts the story of South Korea's greatest Go legend, Cho Hun-hyun (Lee Byeong-hun), who challenges himself to reach the top again after losing to his disciple Lee Chang-ho (Yoo Ah-in) in a match. Set in the 1990s, when Go was revered as the ultimate brain sport, the film is based on the actual model of Go legend Cho Hun-hyun, recognized worldwide like contemporary sports stars Kim Yuna, Park Ji-sung, and Son Heung-min.
Lee Byeong-hun portrayed the real-life Go champion Cho Hun-hyun in the film, delivering a compelling performance that evoked the character's youthful image, as if he had put on a different face. In addition, Lee Byeong-hun meticulously expressed the details of placing Go stones with his fingers, showcasing his dedication to the role.
Regarding his thoughts on the film's release after four years, Lee Byeong-hun said, "There was talk of an OTT release, but personally, I'm a fan of theaters, so I was excited to present this in theaters. There were ups and downs, but I was overjoyed with the result. I hope that many people will see the movie made with care by the actors, director, and all the staff. It's fulfilling to be able to show detailed emotions on a big screen for two hours. It was really good."
Lee Byeong-hun's father-in-law reportedly waited eagerly for 'The Match,' stating, "Recently, my father-in-law, wife Lee Min-jung, and my mother all came to the VIP premiere together. My father-in-law said he enjoyed it a lot. He visited our home yesterday and really remembered the location and the historical context very well. Since he is a huge fan of Go, he expressed that he realized a lot of care was taken not only in the location but also in the art design."
Regarding his wife Lee Min-jung's reaction, he said, "She said she was sad. Thinking it was because of me, I asked, 'What made you sad?' but she said she felt sad when Lee Chang-ho left. (laughs) Still, I think my acting had a part in getting to that point," he added, eliciting laughter.
'The Match' is set to be released on the 26th.
