Good Day, produced by Kim Tae-ho and featuring G-Dragon, is taking a break this week after recording despite the controversy surrounding Kim Soo-hyun and has since apologized.
On the 20th, MBC announced through an official press release, "We are announcing the cancellation of Good Day. The sixth episode, originally scheduled to air on Sunday, March 23, will take a week off for program readjustment." It added, "During that time, a special episode of 'I Live Alone' will be aired. We ask for viewers’ understanding.
While it is only described as 'program readjustment' without giving concrete reasons, some interpret it as being for the editing of the grants involving Kim Soo-hyun.
Previously, Kim Soo-hyun had been embroiled in allegations of grooming, claiming to have dated the late Kim Sae-ron since her adolescence. The late Kim Sae-ron's family asserted through the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute (abbreviated as Gaseyeon) that the two dated for six years, starting when she was 15. They further claimed that despite facing financial difficulties after the late Kim Sae-ron stopped her activities following a drunk driving accident in 2022, they pressured her to repay 700 million won borrowed to settle the incident.
In relation to this, Kim Soo-hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, noted, "This is an undeniable fact that cannot be overlooked," adding, "We are considering the strongest legal response possible to the falsehoods spread by Garosero Research Institute." However, with the increasing allegations, the agency revised its statement to acknowledge that Kim Sae-ron and Kim Soo-hyun dated from the summer of 2019, after she became an adult, until the fall of 2020.
However, Good Day included Kim Soo-hyun in the recording as scheduled on the 13th, and snippets of Kim Soo-hyun were captured in the broadcast aired on the 16th, drawing viewer criticism.
As the controversy escalated, on the 17th, Good Day's production team released a statement saying, "The production team recognizes the seriousness of the controversy regarding the grants of Good Day's participants and is continuing with production while prioritizing viewer reactions. Good Day is a program that is pre-produced at least one week in advance due to translation processes during overseas broadcasting and distribution," they explained.
They continued, "The fifth episode aired yesterday (the 16th) was urgently edited to remove the section featuring Kim Soo-hyun following the immediate escalation of the controversy and was re-uploaded after prior discussions between MBC and global OTT platforms while it was already in translation. As a result, the fifth episode was about 10 minutes shorter than previous ones and lacked detail."
The production team stated, "Regarding the recording that took place on March 13, the production team waited for Kim Soo-hyun's agency to respond amid a delay in Good Day's audio recording. However, due to the agency's plan to make a statement next week (as of March 13) and the difficulty in securing the participant's schedule after that date, the recording had to be conducted after much deliberation." They added, "After careful discussion, the production team made efforts to conduct the recording and sketching with minimal overlap with other participants, keeping in mind the need for segment deletions. We sincerely apologize for causing concern to those who love Good Day."
Additionally, the Good Day team stated, "As long as the controversy surrounding the grants persists, we believe that the purpose of Good Day, which started out with good intentions, and the hearts of the participants who have sincerely joined, along with the love of the viewers who support and empathize, will continue to be damaged." They continued, "The content disclosed in the latter part of episode five broadcast yesterday is from footage filmed on February 18, and it will unfold over the next 6 to 7 episodes. The production team has decided to edit out the portion featuring Kim Soo-hyun as much as possible, and the individual recording of that participant on March 13 will not be aired."
In conclusion, the production team remarked, "We will do our best to ensure that future broadcasts bring joy to viewers, carefully considering the hearts of the participants working together to become a program that can be enjoyed with good days and good people."
