The film ‘The Old Woman with the Knife’ has also been invited to the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival.

On the 20th, the team behind ‘The Old Woman with the Knife’ (director Min Kyu-dong, produced by Sup Film, distributed by NEW) announced that it has been officially invited to the competition institutional sector of the 43rd Brussels Fantastic Film Festival.

‘The Old Woman with the Knife’ is an intense action drama depicting the fierce confrontation between the legendary killer “Jo-gak” (Lee Hye-young), who has been active for over 40 years in an organization that deals with cockroach-like humans, and the mysterious killer “Tu-woo” (Kim Sung-cheol), who has pursued him throughout his life.

The Brussels Fantastic Film Festival, held from April 8 to April 20, is listed among the world’s top three fantastic film festivals, along with the Sitges Film Festival and the Fantasporto Film Festival. Among Korean films, ‘The Excavation’ was officially invited to the international competition institutional sector in 2024, and ‘Sleep’ won the best new director award.

The Brussels Fantastic Film Festival team noted that “with the outstanding performance of actor Lee Hye-young, who plays a deadly old woman threatening John Wick, Min Kyu-dong delivers a visually stunning thriller,” thus generating anticipation for the birth of a unique character and a well-made work never seen before.

This invitation is particularly meaningful as it marks director Min Kyu-dong’s third encounter with the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival. He was first invited with his debut work ‘The Tale of Two High School Girls’ and subsequently won the Silver Raven Award for ‘Scary Stories 2.’ ‘The Old Woman with the Knife,’ which was officially invited to the 75th Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year and garnered global attention, increases expectations for the birth of a well-made action drama amidst a flood of love calls from around the world.

‘The Old Woman with the Knife’ is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 1.
