Kim Jeong-yeon, known as 'the national guide girl,' sang 'Hometown Bus' accompanied by a special instrument.
On the 18th, KBS1's '6 O'Clock My Hometown' featured Kim Jeong-yeon, known as 'the national guide girl,' on a hometown bus in Gapyeong County, Gyeonggi Province. While sitting in the back of the bus and conversing with a rice soup restaurant owner, Kim Jeong-yeon showed great interest when the owner mentioned, 'I used to do music, so when there are no customers, I practice.'
'I just bought an instrument,' the owner said, revealing a beverage. Kim Jeong-yeon asked, 'Isn't this a beverage?' but the owner replied, 'For me, it's an instrument.' Intrigued, Kim Jeong-yeon requested, 'Are there instruments at your restaurant? If so, I’d like to see them,' and the owner gladly accepted, heading to the restaurant with Kim Jeong-yeon.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, when Kim Jeong-yeon urged the owner, 'It seems like there's nothing here,' the owner said, 'It's here and here,' pulling out various beverage and sauce bottles from around the restaurant. Then, to demonstrate, he opened a water bottle and performed 'Nella Fantasia.' Impressed by the precise pitch, Kim Jeong-yeon applauded, saying, 'It was a perfect performance that dispelled my doubts.'
Kim Jeong-yeon attempted to play the water bottle herself, but instead of beautiful music, it only produced a hissing sound. Ultimately, Kim Jeong-yeon enjoyed a sip of water and remarked, 'The water tastes good,' eliciting laughter. The owner explained simply, 'If there’s more beverage, it produces high notes, and if there’s less, it produces low notes.'
Kim Jeong-yeon asked if she could perform her song 'Hometown Bus,' the theme song of 'Life Path Along Country Roads,' using the beverage bottles, leading to an impromptu collaboration performance of her song. The collaboration featured Kim Jeong-yeon's warm voice filled with emotion and the three-color charm of the sauce bottle performance, perfectly blending into a unique appeal.
The owner, who originally majored in traditional Korean music but could not pursue a career as a musician due to financial hardship, expressed a longing to play an instrument but ended up blowing into any bottle he could find.
Kim Jeong-yeon remarked, 'The level was really high, as if it wasn’t just a water bottle but a real instrument,' and added, 'Now that they are preparing to return to the stage, I support you in your music career that started with two instruments.'
Every week, riding the 'Hometown Bus' and meeting with elderly individuals across the country, the heartfelt stories exchanged are no different from those on 'You Quiz,' and this is truly Kim Jeong-yeon’s life talk.
Meanwhile, Kim Jeong-yeon is expected to meet fans more actively than ever throughout the year 2025, starting with 'Post-Separation Love.'
