Lee Chi-hoon passed away suddenly from acute sepsis on March 19, 2020. At that time, as COVID-19 was spreading nationwide, the late Lee's mother wrote, "It's not Shincheonji. I didn't go abroad. I haven't been to Daegu," in an attempt to comfort her son.
Chi-hoon's mother said that her son initially experienced mild viral pharyngitis and was on medication, but the fever wouldn't subside. Longing for her son, the mother departed for where her son was in October 2021.
