Actresses Jung Hye-sun and Song Sun-mi are joining forces through a play.
The KBS1 program 'Morning Yard,' aired on the 18th, featured actresses Jung Hye-sun and Song Sun-mi, who performed together in the play 'Pink Lipstick.'
Jung Hye-sun and Song Sun-mi created a warm atmosphere, resembling a mother-daughter relationship. Song Sun-mi said, 'During my rookie days, I worked on the piece 'Fire' alongside her, and we also did 'The Neighbors' together,' adding, 'At that time, she was already someone I respected, and the reason I chose this play was because of her.' In response, Jung Hye-sun remarked, 'Song Sun-mi already had the title of supermodel back then. With a title like that, she appeared even more beautiful than the typical standard. After a long time acting together, I was genuinely surprised at how much she had grown.'
The play 'Pink Lipstick' portrays the process through which a daughter-in-law begins to understand her mother-in-law's life as the harsh mother-in-law who had imposed strict rules on her starts to suffer from dementia.
In the play, Song Sun-mi partners with actor Gong Jung-hwan as a couple. He said, 'Gong Jung-hwan is kind and caring towards his juniors, yet in the play, he drives me crazy. He quits his job to pursue business and squanders his severance pay.' In response, Jung Hye-sun said, 'Yet in the play, I keep capturing the daughter-in-law role. While I am a mother in the play, that's not the case in reality,' which elicited laughter.
Song Sun-mi lost her husband 8 years ago. She married installation artist Ko Woo-seok, a former art director, in 2006, but he passed away in an unexpected accident in 2017, and she is currently raising her daughter as a single mother.
Regarding this, Song Sun-mi said, 'Thinking back, I believe I positively went through the mourning period. There's a process of denial, anger, giving up, and acceptance; I felt that process deeply.'
'For three years, I constantly dreamed of searching for my husband. Fortunately, I spent that time healthily while raising my daughter. Having gone through that, I feel grateful that many people were concerned for me and cheered me on, which helped me overcome that period. I also think about what I can do for others who are facing difficulties similar to what I experienced. The reason I appeared on a program recently was to show that experiencing such things doesn't necessarily mean living in sadness and struggle, as there are other choices one can make.'
In particular, Song Sun-mi remarked, 'Through this period, I learned how to love myself. In the past, I chased after love without knowing better, but now I love myself very much. Therefore, there's no need to chase after love. I'm very happy and pursuing what I want to do, and this state is the best. If a wonderful person were to appear, I might consider it, but since there isn't one right now, I have no thoughts of remarrying.'
Jung Hye-sun reflected on her past of paying off debts after her divorce. She stated, 'You just need to work hard to pay it back. Nowadays, young people sometimes make extreme choices when faced with hard situations, possibly out of a lack of confidence. I was in my 30s at the time, and I was harassed by creditors. Although I was told I could pay them back while working, it was difficult to do so with just work in television. So, I also took on work in local nightclubs. It wasn't my field of expertise, but I didn't shy away from doing that. The years I spent like this make me think now that I've lived a valuable life.'
Jung Hye-sun also discussed the possibility of remarriage. When the topic of twilight romance came up, she said, 'I have so many male friends that I can't pinpoint anyone. Most of the people I meet at work are my juniors, and there aren't many seniors. Many people refer to me as 'sister' or even 'mother,' so it feels like family. Therefore, I'm not thirsty for men. The best thing I did was not remarry.'
Meanwhile, the play 'Pink Lipstick,' featuring Jung Hye-sun and Song Sun-mi, will be performed from April 4 to May 11 at KT&G Sang Sang Madang Daechi Arts Hall.
