In 'A history of pathetic-ness,' actors Jo Byeong-kyu, Ryu Un, Jung Jae-gwang, and Jeong Yong-joo vividly portray a clumsy and pathetic yet charming group of four youths, receiving enthusiastic responses.

The drama 'A history of pathetic-ness' (written by Kim Poong and directed by Kim Seong-hoon), which first premiered on the 26th of last month on Wavve and Watcha, is a coming-of-age romantic comedy that depicts the growth of four twenty-year-old boys through love and heartbreak. Kim Poong, the original creator of the wildly popular webtoon 'A history of pathetic-ness,' has written the drama, foreshadowing a connected worldview and emotion that has captured public interest.

In particular, 'A history of pathetic-ness' proved its explosive rising trend by achieving first place in daily new paid subscriptions on Wavve on the 12th, when episodes 5 and 6 were released. The reality-reflecting episodes by writer Kim Poong, which depict stories similar to my own and my friends', the detailed depiction of character psychology set in the 2000s by director Kim Seong-hoon, and the flavorful and three-dimensional performances of actors Jo Byeong-kyu, Ryu Un, Jung Jae-gwang, and Jeong Yong-joo have combined to create a new coming-of-age drama.

In relation to this, the charm points of the youthful four – Jo Byeong-kyu, Ryu Un, Jung Jae-gwang, and Jeong Yong-joo – were explored to heighten the show's realistic relatability and maximize immersion.

Seo Min-ki (Jo Byeong-kyu) - the end of the dark history of clumsy love and romance

In 'A history of pathetic-ness,' Jo Byeong-kyu embodies the character Seo Min-ki, who is filled with thoughts and hesitations yet occasionally jumps in with unexpected boldness, showcasing awkward mistakes and pathetic moments with his unique everyday acting. In the show, Seo Min-ki confesses his feelings to his first love, Kwon Seol-ha (Bang Min-a), by splitting a text message into several parts due to a 40-character limit, and after being rejected, he chases after her and spits out harsh words, resulting in a truly pathetic breakup. Although he makes mistakes, Seo Min-ki expresses pure joy like a child during his first romance and roars with anger towards his girlfriend for pathetic reasons, projecting the immature, relatably flawed appearance of a twenty-year-old.

◆Noh Joon-seok (Ryu Un) - externally cool indifference, internally warm and caring tsundere charm

In 'A history of pathetic-ness,' Noh Joon-seok is a character who, while maintaining a calm demeanor and not showing much emotional fluctuation, possesses warmth deep inside. Ryu Un skillfully portrays Noh Joon-seok's tsundere charm with a restrained tone, composed facial expressions, and subtle changes in his gaze. Notably, in the show, Noh Joon-seok makes rational decisions and acts coolly among his friends, yet reveals warmth only to So Joo-yeon (Jo Yun-seo), the daughter of his father's friend, whom he had to live with during his childhood. His gradual developing feelings towards So Joo-yeon add intrigue to his character.

◆Kwon Gi-hyuk (Jung Jae-gwang) - pure and innocent at twenty! His shy demeanor evokes affection

Jung Jae-gwang portrays Kwon Gi-hyuk, the purest and shyest among the youthful four in 'A history of pathetic-ness,' delivering a captivating performance that amplifies the character's relatability. In the show, Kwon Gi-hyuk struggles to earn money through various part-time jobs following his father's death, determined to endure his tough life. While he experiences shock upon learning the profession of Choi Hee-sun (Hwang Bo-rum-byul), with whom he develops feelings by chance, he later smiles with genuine joy after confirming her sincerity in rescuing him, expressing this through candid looks and awkward actions that add persuasiveness to his character.

◆Lee Kwang-jae (Jeong Yong-joo) - a cute and pretentious busybody in romance

In 'A history of pathetic-ness,' Lee Kwang-jae is a self-proclaimed 'romantic expert' who meddles in all his friends' love lives, dispensing advice and intruding, yet is a lovable character filled with pretensions due to a lack of romantic experience. In the show, Lee Kwang-jae is extroverted and affable but also slightly clumsy and foolish, accidentally causing mistakes and incidents, bringing delightful humor to the narrative. Jeong Yong-joo brings this character to life with lively acting and comic reactions filled with adorable pretentiousness.

'A history of pathetic-ness' will release episodes 7 and 8 on Wednesday, the 19th, at 11 a.m. on Wavve and Watcha.
