Broadcaster Lee Soo-geun empathized with a person who has a child with developmental delays.
On the 17th broadcast of KBS Joy's 'Anything goes', a person appeared who wanted to raise a child with developmental delays well.
The person, a former military officer who works in the lodging industry, said, "My wife showed symptoms of high fever when she was 7 months pregnant, so we went to the hospital and had an emergency surgery. The child was born at 7 months, but my wife ultimately could not recover and passed away from sepsis the next morning." They expressed their concerns, saying, "I want to raise my child well, and I also want to succeed in my business."
Lee Soo-geun noted, "It’s cautious, but I also have a similar case," and added, "Our youngest was born prematurely at 7 months." He asked, "Is there any problem if the child is born early?" to which the individual replied, "That’s right. Since they were born small, they still have overall developmental delays."
He comforted the individual, saying, "It's the dad who is suffering the most," and, "If your wife were here, we could comfort each other."
When Seo Jang-hoon asked, "How have you raised your child so far?" the person replied, "After the child was born, my mother helped with the child's meals and sleep." When Seo Jang-hoon inquired about the person's monthly income, they said, "It's about 10 million to 20 million won."
Now that the child is starting school, Seo Jang-hoon advised, "How about hiring someone to take care of the child at a set time?" However, the individual explained, "In the case of development centers, it seems that whether parents accompany the child makes a significant difference," to which Lee Soo-geun responded, "I understand what you mean."
"It's good for the dad to be around all the time. But isn’t that not really possible?" Seo Jang-hoon asked. The individual expressed concern, saying, "These days, the child is particularly seeking their mom," and shared that during role-playing at the development center, the child always takes on the 'mom' role; a friend remarked, 'You’re coming with your dad, not your mom.' They worry that such situations might hurt the child and wonder how to explain this to the child properly.
When Lee Soo-geun asked, "Is there any thought of remarrying since your child is looking for their mom?" the individual replied, "I haven't thought about it yet," reflecting on whether it would be better to wait until the child is older.
Seo Jang-hoon advised, "You need to be financially secure for the child to live a bit more comfortably," and added, "There’s no other way than to seek help from others to succeed in your current business." Lee Soo-geun also encouraged, "As you seek leisure, you'll see other options."
‘Anything goes’ airs every Monday at 8:30 p.m. on KBS Joy, available on LG U+tv channel 1, Genie tv channel 41, SK Btv channel 53, and via the KBS mobile app 'my K', with local cable channel numbers available on the KBS N website.
