The group THE BOYZ is releasing their third studio album today (17th).
This third studio album of THE BOYZ, 'Unexpected', captures their unpredictable charm as the title suggests. The title song 'VVV' is a Synth Pop genre that harmonizes retro synth and old-school hip-hop elements, making it a song where you can see a funky yet trendy side of THE BOYZ.
After previewing the release, THE BOYZ showcased three concepts of youth narratives through various teasing contents, and shared various thoughts and sentiments through their agency, OneHundred.
Next is a Q&A with THE BOYZ.
Q1. This is your first album release after moving to a new agency as a complete group. How do you feel about the comeback?
Sangyeon: It's significant since this album is being presented at a new agency. We've worked hard on it, so please look forward to it. I'm really thankful to the fans, and I'm happy to show you a new side of us.
Kevin: I had a lot of worries and excitement, but throughout the preparation process for the album, I felt that all the members were sincere about the music. So even though the preparation time was short, I wasn't worried and it was a lot of fun.
New: I'm really thankful that you've always waited for and supported THE BOYZ. I think it would have been impossible to release this third studio album 'Unexpected' without the fans. I truly appreciate it!
Sunwoo: A new beginning is always exciting. I felt that it was fun to do music with people who look at us from new perspectives and viewpoints. Please look forward to our third studio album 'Unexpected'.
Eric: I feel a great sense of gratitude for being able to show the next chapter of THE BOYZ. Since this is the first album after moving agencies and also a studio album, I think there will be a lot of interest and anticipation. We'll work hard to meet those expectations and come back with more diverse and advanced music!
Q2. Please introduce your third studio album 'Unexpected' and the title song 'VVV'.
Sangyeon: It's a genre that THE BOYZ hasn't challenged before during their activities, and the music video and performance with a boxing concept are really cool. I think the melody is addictive, and it's a title song that many people can feel fresh about.
Jacob: As the name suggests, I wanted to start with 'Unexpected', meaning that there are many things we can't imagine, and I want to show these aspects more in the future! Additionally, the new title song 'VVV' is a really hopeful and exciting song, so please enjoy it a lot!
Q3. Is there a killing part or a key dance move in this title song?
Juyeon: I believe that the WOO chorus part can be easily followed along and the choreography is impressive, so I think this part is the killing part.
Q: The main concept of this choreography is boxing, so I think it'll be nice if you look for the boxing moves that appear intermittently!
Q4. Please share any episode from the music video shooting site or the album production process.
Kevin: From January to March, we’ve been continuously shooting the jackets, teasers, and the music video. Since it was a cold period, the shooting locations were really cold too. Especially when we were shooting outdoors in Incheon, I remember our members huddling together like penguins to stay warm.
Juhaknyeon: The preparation period was shorter than expected, so there were many difficulties, but I think this album was made with everyone, including the members and staff, really doing their best. I remember that we worked hard day by day!
Q5. This is your first studio album after moving agencies. Were there any feelings of responsibility or pressure regarding the form of the studio album, and what was the reason for choosing this album as a studio album?
Sunwoo: I wanted to create another big memory as THE BOYZ as a complete group, and I think that's the main reason. So rather than feeling pressured, my desire to enjoy it is greater.
Eric: Since it's a studio album and the first album after moving agencies, I had more anticipation than pressure. I wanted to show the fans a carefully made album, so I wanted to include many songs; that's why we proceeded as a studio album.
Q6. Sangyeon, you'll be enlisting soon before the comeback. Is there anything you want to say to the members, and if there's any personal regret, what part would that be?
Sangyeon: I'm sad that I won't be able to be with the members on music broadcasts, but I believe the members will work hard to fill my empty spot and show good performance. Cheer up, members!
Q7. If you had to summarize this album with a single keyword, what would it be? Is there a reason for that thought?
Currently: I think the keyword for this third studio album might be 'the last youth'. Once you listen to the album, you will understand what I mean by that keyword.
New: I think it’s ‘rainbow’. It feels like we've created a piece that is diverse and well-rounded. I hope particularly that many people feel good when they see and hear this album.
Q8. Through this album, what kind of evaluation do you want from the public and the fans?
Younghoon: I want to prove that ‘no matter what concept, THE BOYZ can pull it off!’
Juhaknyeon: I want to receive the evaluation of being a ‘fan-oriented group’. I want to give off the feeling that THE BOYZ truly thinks about the fans!
Q9. Please share your final thoughts and a message to your fans.
Jacob: I'm so glad that we could show this album faster than expected, and thank you to the fans for always supporting us! Derby, please take good care of us during this activity too!!
Younghoon: Derby~ You've waited a long time, right? I always think that we are able to prepare for albums and make comebacks because of you. All our efforts are possible because of the fans! Thank you and love you a lot!
Currently: We, THE BOYZ, have come back with our third studio album 'Unexpected'. We appreciate a lot of interest and love for this album, and Derby! Let’s run together!!
Juyeon: Thank you for supporting our new beginning and giving us a lot of interest and love. Please remember that we always sincerely cheer for you. Thank you.
Q: Thank you for always supporting us for this album too, and let’s create precious and joyful memories this time as well! Thank you for always being there supporting THE BOYZ!
Juhaknyeon: Even for this album release as a complete group, despite the tight schedule, we all prepared with one heart and one mind. Derby! Please listen a lot to us!
