Composer Don Spike, who was sentenced to prison for drug charges, has been released upon completion of his term.
On the 17th, a media outlet reported that Don Spike had been released from prison after serving a 2-year sentence earlier this month.
According to the report, Don Spike is focusing on managing a steak restaurant in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, which he operated with his younger brother, and is quietly reflecting on his actions.
Previously, Don Spike was arrested as a current offender on drug charges in September 2022 at a hotel in Seoul. At the time of his arrest, he was accused of using methamphetamine 14 times since December 2021, purchasing methamphetamine worth 45 million won nine times, and distributing methamphetamine and ecstasy seven times.
Additionally, at the time of his arrest, Don Spike was also charged with possession of approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine. Considering that a typical dose is about 0.03 grams, this corresponds to approximately 1000 doses.
In particular, during the investigation by the police and prosecutors, as well as the first trial process, it was revealed that Don Spike had been fined 50 million won for marijuana use in 2010 and had received a one-year prison sentence with a two-year suspended sentence for another drug charge the same year, leading to criticism.
In the first trial sentencing hearing, the court sentenced Don Spike to three years in prison, five years of probation, community service, drug treatment lectures, and a restitution payment of 39.85 million won, but the prosecution appealed on the grounds of improper sentencing.
The appellate court overturned the original ruling and sentenced Don Spike to two years in prison, and although Don Spike's side filed a petition for appeal, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, finalizing the sentence.
