Kang Tae-oh shook Lee Sun-bin with impeccable flirting in 'The Potato Lab.'
In episode 5 of the tvN weekend drama 'The Potato Lab' (directed by Kang Il-soo and Shim Jae-hyun, written by Kim Ho-soo, planned by CJ ENM Studios, produced by Chorokbaem Media), Kim Mi-kyung (played by Lee Sun-bin) and So Baek-ho (played by Kang Tae-oh) grew a little closer. So Baek-ho was engulfed once again by unfamiliar feelings, possibly regret or jealousy, when Kim Mi-kyung told him that she discussed her worries about the lab with Park Gi-se (played by Lee Hak-joo) instead of him. As the two exchanged playful apologies, they continued their unacknowledged 'something' and elevated their excitement and curiosity as they crowned each other as 'the one who thinks they are the superior partner.'
On this day, So Baek-ho discovered the true essence of Kim Mi-kyung. He found it hard to understand why Kim Mi-kyung, who always took the lead in dealing with unpleasant tasks and made decisions that caused her loss, caught his attention even more because she was so different from him. When So Baek-ho moved a step closer, Kim Mi-kyung took a step back. A change occurred between the two. An unexpected guest, Yoon Hee-jin (played by Jeong Sin-hye), visited So Baek-ho's guest house. Seeing the oddly affectionate interaction between the two, Kim Mi-kyung felt a strange sense of jealousy. When Yoon Hee-jin playfully asked, 'Did you cry every night because you missed me?' So Baek-ho just laughed. Just as the tension between them was about to explode due to his certainty about their relationship, Kim Mi-kyung's misunderstanding was unraveled by Yoon Hee-jin's simple question about who So Baek-ho liked. Although the misunderstanding was resolved, the distance between the two hardly narrowed.
Meanwhile, Kim Mi-kyung was invited to join the merger and acquisition team because of a word from her 'ex-boyfriend' Park Gi-se. Park Gi-se offered to delay her resignation and provide support. Kim Mi-kyung was furious at his overstepping remarks. On the other hand, So Baek-ho felt puzzled seeing Kim Mi-kyung and Park Gi-se together. Although Kim Mi-kyung tried to smooth things over by citing the excuse of having shared research-related concerns, it instead awakened So Baek-ho's feelings. When So Baek-ho asked if it made her so uncomfortable that she couldn't confide in him even once, Kim Mi-kyung was bewildered, saying, 'How can I open up to someone who's about to fire me?'
The relationship between Kim Mi-kyung and So Baek-ho took an unexpected turn due to a strange incident. So Baek-ho, who was restless because of a creepy sound, shared a recording with Kim Mi-kyung, which triggered her mischievous spirit to lie, saying there was no sound at all. However, So Baek-ho, who seemed not to believe in ghosts, created a fuss and even performed a ritual, while Kim Mi-kyung apologized for her lie that the disturbing sound was a ghost. In response to her, So Baek-ho, smiling and urging her to continually say 'I'm sorry,' showed relentless flirting.
The 'apology battle,' which began with Kim Mi-kyung's prank, showed no signs of compromise. When Kim Mi-kyung gifted an apple as an apology, So Baek-ho responded with a finely carved rabbit-shaped apple. When Kim Mi-kyung offered a drink, So Baek-ho called a coffee cart, making her feel even guiltier. Amid their back-and-forth 'superior vs inferior' relationship, Park Gi-se, whom Kim Mi-kyung never wanted to meet again, appeared once more. Park Gi-se, knocking on the door while calling 'Yoon Hee-jin's' name, was also taken aback by Kim Mi-kyung's sudden appearance. The reunion of 'ex-lover' Kim Mi-kyung and Park Gi-se raised tension about the impact it would create.
Meanwhile, strange feelings began to creep up on Lee Yong-joo as well. Upon hearing that Kim Hwan-gyeong (played by Shin Hyun-seung) was going to his favorite craft beer shop with Yoon Hee-jin, Lee Yong-joo realized, 'Why do I feel so uncomfortable seeing this?' as he became aware of his changed feelings. The fluttering change in Lee Yong-joo, who started feeling jealous of Kim Hwan-gyeong meeting Yoon Hee-jin, also draws attention.
