The agency of actor Yoo Yeon-seok clarified the controversy over tax evasion.
On the 14th, Yoo Yeon-seok's agency King Kong by Starship said, "This matter arises from a difference in interpretation and application of tax law between the tax agent and the tax authorities, and we are currently in the stage of waiting for notification from the tax authorities after undergoing a pre-tax review." They expressed an official position, stating, "This is not a matter that has been definitively settled and notified, and we intend to actively clarify the issues related to legal interpretation and application in accordance with proper procedures."
On the same day, CBS No Cut News reported that Yoo Yeon-seok received a tax audit from the National Tax Service during the process of establishing his entertainment agency Forever Entertainment, in which he serves as the representative, and was notified of a penalty of 7 billion won.
In relation to this, King Kong by Starship explained, "This matter stems from the interpretation by the tax authorities that the income of the corporation, which Yoo Yeon-seok has been operating for the past five years to develop and produce YouTube content as an extension of his entertainment activities, is subject to income tax rather than corporate tax, which led to the imposition of personal income tax on the previously reported corporate revenue by the tax agent."
Additionally, they noted, "Yoo Yeon-seok has prioritized fulfilling his tax obligations diligently and will continue to comply with relevant laws and procedures as a member of society and fulfill his responsibility."
Meanwhile, Yoo Yeon-seok is set to appear in the new SBS drama "Law Firm with a God."
