'Opposition' Director Hwang Byeong-guk was actually an actor in 'Seoul's Spring' playing the role of 'Army Major.'
'Opposition' Park Hae-jun revealed an interesting casting behind the scenes.
On the morning of the 13th, a production briefing for the film 'Opposition' was held at Megabox COEX in Seoul. The main cast members, including Kang Ha-neul, Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-jun, Ryu Kyung-soo, Chae Won-bin, and Director Hwang Byeong-guk, attended the event.
The film 'Opposition' (directed by Hwang Byeong-guk, distributed by Plus M Entertainment, produced by HYBE Media Corp) is a crime action piece that unfolds as a broker in South Korea's drug trade, a prosecutor aiming to rise higher, and a detective dedicated to eradicating drug crimes get intertwined with different objectives. It is the latest work from HYBE Media Corp, the production company behind 'Seoul's Spring,' which attracted 13.12 million audiences and deals with 'Opposition,' a little-known aspect of South Korea's drug investigation.
Actor Kang Ha-neul, who is active across various fields and genres on screen and in television, plays the drug trade broker Lee Gang-soo, who sells information about drug offenders to state investigative agencies. Yoo Hae-jin portrays prosecutor Koo Kwan-hee, who rises from humble beginnings, while Park Hae-jun, known for his impressive character portrayals, plays detective Oh Sang-jae, who is committed to eradicating drug crimes. In addition, Ryu Kyung-soo plays Jo Hoon, the son of a presidential candidate, and Chae Won-bin plays actress Um Soo-jin, who fell from grace after becoming involved with drugs.
Park Hae-jun noted, "I thought it would be interesting to bring out the material and existence of 'Opposition.' I met with the director when we were filming 'Seoul's Spring' and talked. I read the script in no time and thought it would be an interesting piece."
Director Hwang Byeong-guk is juggling acting and directing and is releasing a new work for the first time in 14 years since 'Special Investigation.' Recently, he also appeared in the box office hit 'Seoul's Spring' as Army Major Hwang Byeong-geun, who is part of the army command but incompetent.
Park Hae-jun, who mentioned discussing 'Opposition' during the waiting time for 'Seoul's Spring,' said, "It was the first time I saw the director on set, and he kept glancing at me. It seemed he was wondering, 'Should I cast him?' (laughs) I wanted to be cast, but I think my senior Woo-sung was there, so I wondered if that was a hindrance."
Meanwhile, 'Opposition' is set to release on April 23.
