The high-quality occult horror documentary 'Dangol' is being released for the first time today.
The documentary 'Dangol', born from the collaboration of Korea University of Broadcasting and Multimedia and the National Traditional Music Broadcasting, follows graduate student Myung-gil as they study the fading shamanistic tradition of JINDO called 'Dangol', getting caught up in strange phenomena while tracking the ominous truths of the 'Dangolpan', and rediscovering the past, present, and the values embedded within JINDO shamanism. 'Dangol' is being released for the first time today (13th) through IPTV (KT Genie TV, SK Btv, LG U+TV), digital cable TV (Home Choice), satellite TV (KT Skylife), revealing must-see viewing points.
The first viewing point is the reflection on the meaning of traditional Korean shamanism through the mystical world of 'Dangol', a deeply rooted cultural element of the Jeolla region. 'Dangol' has served as an important member of the community, forming close relationships with residents to ward off bad energy and attract good fortune (jeaekchobok) for family peace. Additionally, 'Dangol' has conducted rites wishing for the community's well-being, establishing itself as a figure akin to a modern-day counselor. Coupled with scenes of real shamanistic rituals and the tools used by shamans, the rich details make 'Dangol' a well-crafted K-Occult documentary that fulfills the curiosity of occult fans.
The second viewing point is the emergence of 'real' horror that is created by the combination of a documentary exploring the mysteries of the actual shamanistic world and a fake documentary format within the occult horror genre. The fake documentary format is an actively used documentary technique, but by choosing the subject of the actual shamanistic world, which is both mystical and chilling, it enhances the intense immersion characteristic of the horror genre, creating a unique documentary that has never been seen before. Through this groundbreaking storytelling and the combination of a rare subject, 'Dangol' has achieved the remarkable feat of being invited to nine overseas film festivals.
The final viewing point is the artistic presentation of the beautiful scenery of JINDO and the mystical atmosphere through shamanistic rituals. Utilizing high-end cinema cameras and various special shooting equipment, it captures the vivid scenes of traditional shamanistic rituals while maximizing the cinematic feel through character placement, camera angles, and color arrangements, enhancing the overall quality of the work. By incorporating sophisticated 2D and 3D CGI rarely seen in documentaries, it seeks to maximize visual immersion, and includes various special shooting techniques such as hyperlapse and interval shooting to offer outstanding visual aesthetics. Through this, 'Dangol' is expected to complete a unique visual experience that combines the realism of a documentary with an occult atmosphere, differentiating it from existing works.
