The group ILLIT won the most awards among K-pop female artists at a prestigious music awards ceremony in Japan.
ILLIT (Yoon-a, Min-ju, Mo-ka, Won-hee, I-ro-ha) reached the top three with their debut song 'Magnetic,' winning 'Song of the Year by Download (Asia),' 'Song of the Year by Streaming (Asia),' and 'Best 5 Song by Streaming' at the '39th Japan Gold Disk Daesang' announced on the 12th.
The 'Japan Gold Disk Daesang,' which began in 1987, awards artists and works that have contributed to the development of the recording industry, as determined by sales figures of albums, music videos, and streaming and download statistics for works released over the past year.
'Magnetic' by ILLIT received a 'Double Platinum' certification (accumulated 200 million plays) from the Japan Record Association as of last January. This is the fastest achievement for a single song by a female group in history. Thanks to this popularity, ILLIT shone as the 'top girl group of the 5th generation' by taking home the most trophies among K-pop female artists at the '39th Japan Gold Disk Daesang.'
The members said, “Thanks to our always supportive GLLIT (fan club name), we were able to achieve such a meaningful result. Thank you so much for the love.”
Including the 'Japan Gold Disk Daesang,' ILLIT has now claimed a total of four trophies at influential local music award ceremonies. They previously received the 'Rookie Award' at the 'Japan Record Daesang.' This award marks the first time in 13 years that a K-pop girl group has won the Rookie Award and the first win for an artist that has not officially released an album in Japan.
ILLIT swept various annual charts in Japan last year. They particularly achieved the highest ranking among K-pop artists and all overseas artists on Billboard Japan, and they also showed significant indicators of popularity in the annual rankings on Japanese YouTube and TikTok.
ILLIT recently released their first original track in Japan, 'Almond Chocolate,' which is the theme song for the movie 'I Don't Like You Just for Your Face,' receiving positive responses. The song entered the top ranks of the Oricon 'Daily Digital Single Ranking' immediately upon release and reached No. 1 on the AWA music real-time rising chart and the Spotify Japan daily rising chart. It is unusual for a K-pop rookie girl group to be selected as a theme song vocalist for a local movie and achieve such success.
