The members of Sugar reminisced about the past and expressed emotional feelings.
In the SBS Plus and E Channel entertainment program "Solo Because" that aired on the 11th, the reunion of Sugar's Hwang Jung-eum, Ayumi, and Yoo Hye-seung was depicted.
Gathered together, they recalled their time as Sugar. Hwang Jung-eum said she was embarrassed by the costumes from her time in Sugar, and clips showed outfits ranging from a cow costume to a Christmas tree outfit, shocking everyone. Hwang Jung-eum confessed, "I was so embarrassed that I didn't even talk about my debut with my friends. I thought we would become the second Fin.K.L. I wasn't the celebrity I had imagined. I wasn't happy."
Yoo Hye-seung said, "I really disliked that when Ayumi unnie received a lot of love and we went to events, it was my turn next. The sound of cheers for Ayumi unnie in front of me was too loud," and Ayumi noted, "Looking back now, you must have felt bad. You guys didn't show it at all." Hwang Jung-eum and Yoo Hye-seung said, "We were really grateful. If it weren't for Ayumi, no one would have known about Sugar."
Ayumi expressed her gratitude, saying, "I was so busy that I couldn't sleep or eat, so the members prepared meals for me," and Hwang Jung-eum added, "She was a divine being to us."
Hwang Jung-eum explained about her departure and retirement rumors, saying, "I had a short contract period, and when it ended, I didn't renew it and left. I felt upset about shrinking myself. I wasn't big enough to handle that. I was too young. I expected a lot from myself. That's why I didn't renew the contract."
Lost in the memories of Sugar, Hwang Jung-eum suggested karaoke to Ayumi and Yoo Hye-seung. They opened their first stage with "Because I'm a Girl." They then passionately sang Ayumi's "Cutie Honey" and Sugar's songs one after another. Everyone was moved to sing songs after 20 years.
Hwang Jung-eum said, "Just the fact that we've been together for 23 years is a very thankful thing. Having friends with whom I can share memories is tremendously touching. I felt a sense of gratitude that we can gather immediately when I call."
Ayumi, who was watching the three members passionately perform on video, said, "I feel tears. It's been 20 years since we gathered to sing, and it brings back old memories. As I watched the members while singing, I saw their old faces. It was quite emotional. There were happy times and tough times, but I realized we have grown well together."
