Actor Jang Shin-young has been cast as the lead in the new MBC daily drama "The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun," marking her return to her original profession of acting in the home theater after a long time.
The new MBC daily drama "The Woman Who Swallowed the Sun" (planned by Jang Jae-hoon, directed by Kim Jin-hyung, written by Seol Kyung-eun, produced by MBC C&I) depicts a desperate revenge tale of a woman who stands up against a conglomerate in the name of her only daughter in a world where victims have become perpetrators. Director Kim Jin-hyung, who directed the drama "Heavenly Relationships," and writer Seol Kyung-eun, known for showcasing solid narratives and realistic dialogue through dramas like "Hide and Seek" and "Two Women's Rooms," are expected to work together, creating a daily drama that resonates with audiences, making it a point of interest.
In this project, Jang Shin-young joins as the lead character, raising expectations. Jang Shin-young plays the role of Baek Seol-hee, a character overflowing with bright and positive energy. After being abandoned by her beloved man and facing a crisis of losing her unborn child, Baek Seol-hee chooses the path of a voluntary single mother, entering a difficult life, yet she courageously fulfills the role of a mother. Meanwhile, actor Kang Kyung-jun, who is Jang Shin-young's husband, was sued for 50 million won in damages after being identified as an extramarital partner in December 2023. In the first trial held on July 24 of last year at the Seoul Family Court, Kang Kyung-jun's side decided to settle the lawsuit by accepting the plaintiff's claim. Eight months after the controversy erupted, Jang Shin-young revealed via social media that she decided to forgive Kang Kyung-jun for the sake of the children. He returned to SBS's "My Little Old Boy" in October of last year, showcasing his exceptional cooking skills on KBS2's "New Product Launch: Pyeon Restaurant."
