(Following Interview ③) The production team of 'Let's be on your side 4' noted their efforts to maintain the broadcast level so that viewers do not feel uncomfortable.
On the morning of the 11th, an interview with Producer Yang Ja-young and Writer Noh Jin-young of U+'s original entertainment program 'Let's be on your side 4' was conducted at a studio in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
'Let's be on your side 4' is a talk show that guarantees deep immersion. It is a program where the four supporters, Han Hye-jin, Park Na-rae, Pungja, and Eom Ji-yoon, share stories about various issues.
Previously, 'Let's be on your side 4' anticipated an unprecedentedly high level of provocative 'dopamine talk' before its airing, generating expectations. In the actual broadcast, it captivated viewers with dramatic stories and spicy discussions that were even more dramatic than a drama.
However, as it is a broadcast, maintaining boundaries to ensure viewers do not feel uncomfortable is also a key role of the production team. In this regard, Producer Yang Ja-young explained, "I think the strength of having a female production team is well manifested in such aspects. This level of intensity and these details are somewhat nuanced, but as female producers, both the writer and I have over 20 years of experience. We are managing well with the know-how we've built up over the years. Each platform has its characteristics, so we take that into account when making decisions. In fact, we don't make decisions lightly and consider a lot, such as watching subtitles and edited versions several times."
Writer Noh Jin-young stated, "Although the production team is mainly female, there are a few men, right? We make sure to ask for opinions. We cannot be too one-sided, so we check whether there are aspects that men might find uncomfortable or hard to understand. It seems to have expanded with Season 4. Since there aren't many programs where celebrities share their actual concerns and empathize together, we decided to cover topics that could evoke empathy and are worth discussing together, even if they are not provocative." She also expressed trust in Producer Yang Ja-young by stating, "Producer Yang has expertise in discussing sensitive parts and managing intensity very well."
In particular, the 'Let's be on your side' series, released through IPTV and mobile rather than public broadcast, has a comparatively free aspect in terms of censorship regulations. Producer Yang Ja-young said, "Recently, Seasons 1 to 3 of 'Let's be on your side' started streaming on Tving, so you can also watch it on Tving." She noted, "The level of language is somewhat relaxed compared to terrestrial broadcast regulations. However, both the writer and I have only worked in terrestrial broadcasting, so there are aspects that we feel, 'no matter what, this is a bit much,' which we filter out on our own. We are trying to navigate those boundaries well."
He explained, "It seems to be a characteristic of mass media. People who produce mass media should have this as a default regardless of the field they are in. However, it is a matter of whether the public can open up what they want to see more."
Noh Jin-young also conveyed trust with the cast by saying, "There are many times we are grateful to the MCs. They feel comfortable sharing everything because they trust that if there is a problematic part, it will be edited well."
Meanwhile, 'Let's be on your side 4' is released every Monday and Tuesday at 12 a.m. via U+ Mobile TV and U+ TV.
