Singer Wheesung (real name Choi Wheesung) has passed away, and condolences for the deceased have come from actor Park Bo-gum, close friend singer KCM, and junior singers who appeared on 'The Show.'
At around 6:29 p.m. on the 10th, Wheesung was found in cardiac arrest at an APT. in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. He was 43 years old.
The Gwangjin Police Department, which is handling the case, stated that the emergency team that arrived at the scene performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation but ultimately declared him dead. In this context, Yonhap News and others reported, citing the Gwangjin Police Department, that a syringe was found next to the body at the time of discovery.
However, the exact cause of death has not been revealed. Police plan to request an autopsy from the National Forensic Service to examine drug use and other details regarding the cause of death.
Meanwhile, on the 11th, the entertainment industry saw a wave of tributes for the deceased. On the morning of that day, at the KBS Art Hall in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, the deceased was mentioned during a press conference for the KBS 2TV entertainment program 'The Seasons - Park Bo-gum's Cantabile.'
At the event that day, actor Park Bo-gum, who served as the MC, along with bandmaster Jung Dong-hwan, PD Choi Seung-hee, PD Son Ja-yeon, and PD Choi Ji-na attended, with KBS announcer Lee Ye-won hosting. Before the event began, Lee Ye-won mentioned, "Before we start the event, there was unfortunate news about singer Wheesung," expressing, "I sincerely offer my condolences while remembering his wonderful music."
KCM, a close friend who was set to hold a joint concert with the deceased on the 15th, was also overwhelmed with emotion. He left a message on his personal social media, saying, "Let's meet on March 15... I'm sorry, Seong-a."
Musical actress Ok Joo-hyun, former member of girl group Fin.K.L, also reflected on her memories with the deceased through her personal social media, stating, "I enjoyed having vocal lessons collecting sounds right in front of the soundproof wall for hours, and was so excited trying and exploring various lessons. I will not forget how much strength you gave me during that time as my vocal lesson comrade. I hope you are happy there, with your vibrant energy and passionate music... I will pray for you and remember you."
Solar, a member of girl group Mamamoo who had received Wheesung's featuring before her official debut, also expressed her gratitude by saying, "Thank you for helping us create and sing wonderful songs together when we knew nothing before our debut. I will not forget your wonderful music. I wish for the peaceful repose of the deceased."
Meanwhile, in the evening, at the SBS Prism Tower in Mapo-gu, Seoul, tributes from junior singers took place at the SBS M music program 'The Show.' Under the guidance of MCs Xiao Jun, Jeong Se-bi, and Hyeong-jun, all the participants gathered to express their condolences for Wheesung.
On the morning of the 12th, the family will proceed with cremation as soon as the autopsy is completed at the National Forensic Service. In accordance with the wishes of the bereaved family, there will be no funeral service, and the funeral procedure will be completed with only family members and close friends in attendance.
