Park Bo-gum and IU appeared on the KBS show 'Gayo Stage' to promote the Netflix series 'The Sound of Breaking Up.' However, contrary to the extensive promotion and youthful stage, the viewership ratings were somewhat disappointing.
The KBS 1TV 'Gayo Stage' that aired on the 10th was themed 'Welcoming Spring.' Dressed in matching school uniforms from the 1970s, IU and Park Bo-gum opened 'Gayo Stage' by singing 'A Love Story of a Mountain Boy' by Yemin. The two completed a pleasant chemistry by looking warmly at each other while singing the lyrics 'The Beautiful Love Story of a Small Mountain Boy.'
The stage was youthful and lovely. However, the viewership ratings were not beautiful. According to Nielsen Korea, a viewership rating research agency, 'Gayo Stage,' which aired the previous day, recorded a rating of 4.9%. This was a decrease of 0.9 percentage points compared to the previous week. The 'Gayo Stage,' which had maintained ratings in the 5-6% range, did not benefit from the expected effect of IU and Park Bo-gum.
When news broke on the 24th of last month that Park Bo-gum and IU would participate in the recording of 'Gayo Stage,' both online and offline platforms heated up. The promotional content 'Gayo Stage' was fresh, and it was a rare opportunity to enjoy Park Bo-gum's live performance at home. However, the viewership ratings of 'Gayo Stage' actually fell compared to the previous week.
While it is difficult to solely blame the two for the viewership results, the effect of Aesoon and Gwan-sik was nonetheless absent.
Meanwhile, the Netflix series 'The Sound of Breaking Up,' released on the 7th, reveals the adventurous life of Aesoon, a 'cute rebellious girl' born in Jeju, and Gwan-sik, a 'foolish strongman,' across four seasons. Directors Kim Won-seok, known for 'Signal' and 'The Man from Nowhere,' and writer Im Sang-chun, known for 'Fight for My Way' and 'When the Camellia Blooms,' collaborated on this project.
According to the OTT content ranking site FlixPatrol, 'The Sound of Breaking Up' ranked 6th in the Netflix TV show global TOP 10 as of the 10th (total points 305). In South Korea, it immediately topped the 'Today's Top 10 series in South Korea' right after its release, but its global momentum is still lacking.
