Singer Wheesung (43, real name Choi Wheesung) was found dead at his home on the 10th. According to police and fire authorities, Wheesung was discovered collapsed around 6:29 p.m. in an APT. located in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. The fire authorities dispatched to the scene after receiving a report from Wheesung's family.
Police and fire authorities are investigating, noting that Wheesung was found a considerable time after his death. The police said, "So far, there are no signs of criminal intrusion, such as evidence of a break-in," and added, "We are currently investigating the presence of a suicide note and the exact circumstances surrounding his death."
Wheesung's agency TAJOYENT stated, "Today (March 10), our artist Wheesung has left us," and "The deceased was found in a state of cardiac arrest at his home in Seoul and was declared dead."
The agency added, "In light of this sudden tragic news, family members, fellow artists from TAJOYENT, and all employees are mourning the loss with heavy hearts," and noted, "We are deeply saddened to deliver this unfortunate news to fans who have given Wheesung abundant support and love. We ask that you pray for the deceased's rest and peace."
Wheesung was scheduled to hold a joint concert titled 'The Story' with singer KCM at the Daegu EXCO Auditorium on the 15th. He had posted a photo on his social media network service (SNS) on the 6th, saying, "See you on March 15 after the diet is over."
Debuting with his first album 'Like a Movie' in 2002, Wheesung gained immense popularity with his hit song 'Can't We Do It?' He released several hit songs such as 'With Me,' 'The Day We Meet Again,' 'Terminal Illness,' and 'In a Year.' He also worked as a lyricist, penning tracks including his own 'Love is Delicious♡,' Younha's 'Password 486,' Lee Hyori's 'HEY MR.BIG (boys in girl),' T-ara's 'Crazy Because of You,' Orange Caramel's 'Magical Girl,' TWICE's 'Dance The Night Away,' Ivy's 'Seduction Sonata,' and Ailee's 'Heaven.'
Later, Wheesung was charged with administering the psychotropic anesthetic propofol and received a one-year prison sentence with two years of probation in an appeal trial in 2021. He was accused of purchasing and using propofol 12 times from September to November 2019. He was also found collapsed after allegedly receiving the anesthetic etomidate in Songpa-gu and Gwangjin-gu in March and April 2020.
