Park Jin-young, known as the 'witch,' jumped into the Han River to avoid the 'law of death.' His life-risking data validation led to a thrilling conclusion, with tension peaking at the ending.
In the 7th episode of the weekend drama 'Witch' (written by Jo Yu-jin, directed by Kim Tae-gyun) aired on the afternoon of the 8th, Dong-jin (played by Park Jin-young) struggled to collect data and validate hypotheses to reduce the errors of the 'law of death' surrounding Mi-jeong (played by Noh Jung-ui). To match Mi-jeong's pattern of life, which involved receiving deliveries of living essentials from the mart every Tuesday, Dong-jin worked as a delivery person only on Tuesdays. And finally, when Mi-jeong's order came in, he nervously headed her way.
Thus, the first meeting between the two lasted for about 8 minutes. Since it didn't exceed 10 minutes, nothing happened to Dong-jin. Afterward, he entered Mi-jeong's spatial range and tested over several days while timing it. There were no issues up to 10 minutes. Then he extended it beyond 10 minutes. Sure enough, as Dong-jin was coming down the stairs, he twisted his ankle and fell. Thus, he validated the hypothesis that being with Mi-jeong for more than 10 minutes within 10m was dangerous.
The 10-minute delivery meetings continued, and at some point, Mi-jeong also began to look forward to this time. It had been a long time since she had a conversation with anyone other than her only friend Eunsil (played by Jang Hee-ryung). Although it was just around 10 minutes, this moment became special for Mi-jeong. When Dong-jin read items off the receipt one by one, and Mi-jeong echoed him while checking, it created a strangely warm feeling as they seemed to share a small part of their daily lives.
However, an unexpected variable occurred that day. Mi-jeong, who had always paid in cash, handed over a card. Dong-jin, who had forgotten to bring the card terminal, was momentarily flustered and tried to hurry back. But Mi-jeong stopped him and began to go into her house to find cash. As time passed, Dong-jin became anxious. Once he received the cash from Mi-jeong, he quickly exited the building, and fortunately, it hadn't exceeded 10 minutes. However, at the moment he was relieved, a sign hanging above him fell. This time, he injured his hand.
Dong-jin had clearly adhered to the '10m and 10 minutes' rule. Nevertheless, the activation of the 'law of death' meant that other rules existed. Reflecting on that day, Dong-jin thought there might be a possibility that the number of conversations was a variable. To validate this, he counted the number of exchanges while checking the delivery items. By then, they had exchanged seven sentences, and around the 6-minute mark, Mi-jeong's gaze fell on Dong-jin's injured hand. She seemed to shrink back, worried it was due to her. Dong-jin claimed he had injured it while exercising, and despite exceeding ten dialogues, seeing her relieved face was enough for him. However, the moment he turned away, he got into a motorcycle accident. It was dangerous to talk more than ten sentences with her.
In this way, Dong-jin proved the 'law of death' without a single uninjured spot on his body. Even when Eunsil warned him that he could really die, he could not stop. And, as warned by Eunsil, he faced a dangerous moment. It was the day Mi-jeong took a bus trip once a month. Wanting to see what Mi-jeong saw, Dong-jin boarded the same bus. Although the distance between them was approximately 11m, dangerously close, he was happy just to be with her.
However, after Mi-jeong gave up her seat to an elderly person and moved towards Dong-jin, a variable occurred. Now, their distance was less than 5m. To make matters worse, traffic congestion blocked the road. As the 10-minute mark approached, the situation worsened. Heavy rain fell along with lightning, and a cargo truck loaded with steel pipes precariously stopped right next to the bus Dong-jin was in. Anxiety began to rise in Dong-jin about how the 'law of death' would activate this time, and he ultimately decided to open the window and escape, distancing himself from her.
At that moment, Mi-jeong's gaze precisely landed on Dong-jin. Her hat was blown off by the rain and wind, fully revealing her face. Then something unexpected happened. Mi-jeong called out his name, saying, 'Lee Dong-jin.' Mi-jeong knew Dong-jin's name. With the '10m and 10 minutes' and now the name, Dong-jin had violated too many rules all at once, but he believed in the data and patterns he had accumulated. There had never been a record of lightning striking the Han River in winter. Thus, he boldly declared a challenge to the 'law of death,' saying, 'Come chase me!' and jumped into the Han River without hesitation, raising curiosity for the next episode.
