'Mickey 17' is approaching its North American release, and foreign media continues to speculate on its box office performance.
According to a report by the foreign media outlet Variety on July 7 (local time), 'Mickey 17' generated $2.5 million (approximately 3.6 billion Hanwha) in box office revenue during its preview screening on the 6th.
On its first day of release in North America, 'Mickey 17' is scheduled to be shown in 3,770 theaters during its opening weekend, and initial box office revenue in North America is expected to range from $18 million to $20 million (26 billion to 28.9 billion Hanwha), with overseas box office revenue anticipated to range from $20 million to $25 million (28.9 billion to 36.2 billion Hanwha), bringing the global box office revenue estimate to between $40 million and $45 million (approximately 58 billion to 65 billion Hanwha).
'Mickey 17' has a production cost of $118 million (171 billion won), and to break even, it is estimated that about $275 million to $300 million (398.6 billion to 430 billion won) will be needed at the global box office. However, forecasts suggest that achieving this 'turn to profitability' may be challenging.
Nevertheless, at the current North American box office, there are no strong competitors, leading to expectations that 'Mickey 17' will take first place at the box office.
Meanwhile, 'Mickey 17' (written and directed by Bong Joon-ho, produced by Plan B Entertainment, distributed by Warner Bros. Korea Co., Ltd.) follows the unpredictable story of a consumable (expendable) who is deployed into dangerous missions. Mickey (played by Robert Pattinson), experiencing his 17th near-death, finds himself in a situation where Mickey 18 (also played by Robert Pattinson) is printed, believing that he has died.
In South Korea, it was released globally for the first time on the 28th of last month, and according to the integrated ticket sales network of the Korean Film Promotion Committee on the 8th, 'Mickey 17' attracted 109,850 viewers the previous day, bringing its cumulative audience to 1,646,215, showcasing overwhelming strength.
