Singer and actor Jisoo (JISOO) has made a mark on viewers with a three-dimensional character.
Jisoo maximized the character's charm with expressive performances that oscillated between thrilling battles and poignant romance in episodes 5 and 6 of the Coupang Play series 'Newtopia,' which were released on the 28th and the 7th of last month.
'Newtopia' tells the story of soldier Jaeyoon (Park Jung-min) and his girlfriend Youngju (Jisoo) running to each other across a Seoul city center besieged by zombies.
In episode 5, Youngju, who reached A Tower where Jaeyoon was, headed to the parking lot, avoiding the front gate swarming with zombies. However, she was attacked by zombies occupying the parking lot and ultimately had to climb on top of a car, battling desperately with a golf club. Youngju's heartbreaking cries of sadness after Alex (Lee Hak-joo), who saved her from danger, ultimately became a victim of the horde of zombies, touched the hearts of viewers.
Youngju, who had been in hiding, finally got in touch with her boyfriend Jaeyoon and shed tears of joy. Despite being surrounded by zombies, he boldly declared, "I will protect you," continuing his courageous, unwavering love, eliciting affection.
The chemistry between Youngju's team and the repeater student (Tang Jun-sang) was also glimpsed as he left the team after turning into a zombie. Youngju bid a heartfelt farewell to the repeater student, who would be left alone, repeating with a worried face, "Be careful."
In the following episode 6, Youngju, who became isolated after her senior Jinwook (Kang Young-seok) left her side, embarked on a full-on attack against zombies, heightening the tension. After losing the car she was riding in, Youngju entered the subway station to head to Suwon Station, where Jaeyoon said it was safe, but even inside the subway, the area was infested with zombies. As she searched for survival weapons, she discovered the coveted chainsaw and exclaimed, "Score!" with sparkling eyes.
Armed with a chainsaw and a helmet, Youngju fought off the approaching zombies one after another, activating her enhanced survival abilities. However, as she became cornered and found herself overwhelmed alone, the viewers wondered whether Youngju could escape the crisis and reunite with Jaeyoon.
Meanwhile, Jisoo is writing a career high as her recently released solo mini-album 'AMORTAGE' and title track 'earthquake' sweep global music charts. She is also set to hold a 2025 fan meeting tour 'LIGHTS, LOVE, ACTION!' in seven Asian cities, including Manila, Bangkok, Tokyo, Macau, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Hanoi. As an actress, Jisoo is actively engaged in various projects, including 'Newtopia,' the film 'All-Time Readers Perspective' set to release in July, and the Netflix series 'Monthly Boyfriend.'
