Actress Shin Ae-ra and comedian Kim Young-chul are suffering from the excessive use of 'deepfake-generated' fake news.
On the 7th, Shin Ae-ra posted on her social media, "I usually tend to ignore things like this, but since there might be people who could be harmed, I'm sharing this" along with a photo.
The released photo contains fake news produced by deepfake, featuring Shin Ae-ra's face along with outrageous headlines such as "Secret documents discovered and arrested," "Detained," and "Scandal news."
In response, Shin Ae-ra said, "I am not involved in any stocks or coins that generate monthly income through unethical investments," adding, "Please do not be deceived by such nonsensical methods. My agency is considering filing a criminal complaint, so I hope you will stop your illegal activities immediately. It's a nice day, but I am very angry."
Recently, crimes exploiting deepfakes have been continuously occurring, not only involving famous individuals but also ordinary people, leading to a surge in victim cases. Comedian Kim Young-chul also expressed the damage caused by fake news today (8th).
Kim Young-chul revealed through social media, "I am trying not to pay attention and just let it go, but I keep getting messages from various places asking, 'What's this?'" He shared a screenshot of fake news created using the name of a media outlet, which included sensational headlines such as "Famous broadcaster Kim Young-chul, nationality to be stripped after acknowledging charges," and "A few words ruined Kim Young-chul's future," causing dismay.
In response, Kim Young-chul emphasized, "Receiving content that is completely unrelated is exhausting, and when I see that, I wonder how such things can come out involving a newspaper. Please take it down, and do not believe or post such things. I don't know what the intention behind creating such things is. Please be careful with these videos, texts, and photos. I want to reiterate that I have no relationship with this at all."
