Actor Park Bo-gum created anticipation by hinting at his chemistry with IU in "No You Were Totally Deceived."
On the morning of the 7th, Park Bo-gum, the star of the Netflix original "No You Were Totally Deceived" and host of "The Seasons - Park Bo-gum’s Cantabile," appeared as a guest on KBS Cool FM's "Park Myung-soo's Radio Show."
"No You Were Totally Deceived" is a Netflix series that unfolds the adventurous life of Aesoon (IU) born in Jeju, a 'feisty rebel,' and Gwan-sik (Park Bo-gum), 'an inept but earnest' man, across the four seasons.
That day, Park Myung-soo noted, "I created a new corner by dropping the fixed segment to invite this person," and decorated the segment not with 'Search N Chart,' but with 'Park Myung-soo's Financier.' He introduced, "The main character of 'No You Were Totally Deceived' and host of 'Park Bo-gum's Cantabile.' The man of Thursdays. A diligent, sincere, and beautiful actor. Mr. Park Bo-gum is with us."
He said, "You came to our show a while ago, and I appreciate you coming again. We couldn't even call you, but thank you for reaching out directly to come. You were selected as the MC for 'The Seasons.' I hear you play the piano well, love music, and sing well, so I was surprised to hear you will be doing 'The Seasons.' I'm curious how you ended up doing 'The Seasons.'"
In response, Park Bo-gum explained, "I will join as the 7th MC for 'The Seasons' in 2025. I was the MC for Music Bank in 2015. After 10 years, I always thought about wanting to host a radio or music talk show at some point. Now that I have the opportunity, I grabbed it to join."
Park Myung-soo complimented, "'The Seasons' is different from Music Bank. Music Bank only introduces, but this time we need to draw out various things. You have that capability," and Park Bo-gum expressed, "I want to ask for advice from you, senior. We need to make the guests feel comfortable and lead them, and I have a strong desire to make many artists shine, so I’m curious how I can help guests comfortably talk about music stories."
Then Park Myung-soo joked, "You need to put some pressure on them. You must cover the waiting room with things like Financier. If Mr. Park Bo-gum prepares it, who wouldn't feel good? There are material things, but with something sweet, that will make them feel good. I'm not saying spend a lot of money; if you make them feel good, they will share everything. They will talk about assets, debts. You need to draw them out like someone you won’t see again. I believe you will do well," while also suggesting, "Just talking face-to-face will also be nice."
He asked, "Can I expect you to sing and play the piano well?" and Park Bo-gum responded, "I want to prepare a stage little by little, even though I'm a bit lacking." He suggested, "If you have time later, please join us," and Park Myung-soo recalled, "I went out with Lee Hyori. I got very nauseous. I struggle with in-ears. If I practice, during summer I will prepare for a DJ party. I think I can’t sing because I have nausea. When I was performing 'Prince of the Ocean,' I was told to keep my distance from the audience. I went for it, but I didn’t know what to do, and I missed the song midway."
Park Bo-gum also shared insights about "No You Were Totally Deceived." He said, "When I first heard the title, I thought it was a story about deception. Is it a story that surprises each time? But it turns out it's a Jeju dialect meaning 'Thank you for your hard work.' So the plot itself is a narrative that comforts those who have lived a full life, saying ‘You’ve worked hard, thank you.’"
Upon seeing the poster, Park Myung-soo remarked, "I thought it was an old photo of my father. It has a classic feel. The person on the left looks familiar," to which Park Bo-gum replied, "That’s IU." He continued, "IU is a literary girl with many dreams who has lived in Jeju for a long time and wants to go to Seoul. The character I play, Gwan-sik, loves Aesoon and is an inept but earnest man. I've taken on the role of a sincere man who is trying hard to win Aesoon's heart."
Park Myung-soo asked, "What makes it interesting? The romance between the two?" Park Bo-gum replied, "Not just the romance, but all the seniors who appear have really diverse charms. It’s a story about characters you might see around you; it has a genuine feel. I think it’s a story that many will appreciate and resonate with."
Then Park Myung-soo asked, "Is this your first time working with IU?" and Park Bo-gum replied, "I first met her during an advertisement shoot when I was a teenager. At that time, it was awkward since we didn't know each other well. I was a rookie. We briefly collaborated and then in my 20s, I made a special appearance as an MC on 'Producer.' Now in my 30s, we officially act together, and I have gotten closer while promoting this project." He added, "We occasionally communicated in our 20s, but now in my 30s, we're finally working together officially, showing our chemistry as peers."
When Park Bo-gum asked, "How's your relationship with IU? Have you become close?" he replied, "It's fun; I'm having a great time. IU is cheerful, warm-hearted, and I’ve learned a lot from her." When asked if he talked to her about 'Cantabile,' he said, "I mentioned it, and she responded positively, saying she would definitely come support me when there’s time." Hearing this, Park Bo-gum joked, "If she calls me then, I’ll sing 'Leon.'"
He recounted, "IU said, after seeing me perform emotional crying scenes, that I could have done better and apologized, which touched me. But isn't it fine?" To this, Park Bo-gum explained, "I feel a sense of inadequacy. I want to do better at these moments without regrets. I recall a time I was asked to revisit a scene to improve it. That stays in my memory."
Park Myung-soo questioned, "Crying isn’t just something that happens naturally, right? You don't just cry; you need to immerse yourself in the emotion. Isn't it that when you're caught up, it’s possible to not cry?" Park Bo-gum responded, "I tend to draw strength from my interactions with the other actors as people. In that situation, I remember the lines and emotions well, and if I try to get back into character while feeling overwhelmed with emotions, I typically ask my acting partner for a hand and request to repeat a line." In contrast, when asked, "What if no one is beside you?" he said, "I grab my heart and my pant leg."
He further shared about 'No You Were Totally Deceived,' stating, "This is a new endeavor and a story I want to cherish, so today the 4th episode is being released. Since it’s a story that arrives with the warm spring, it includes all four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter in the drama," adding, "I can say that it encompasses all the stories."
