The way Park Jin-young loves Noh Jeong-ui in Channel A's "Witch" is coloring the weekend nights with tenderness.
Dong-jin (Park Jin-young) from Channel A's weekend drama "Witch" is quitting his well-doing job and struggling hard with a heartfelt resolution to help Mi-jeong (Noh Jeong-ui) regain her normal life. Mi-jeong, branded as a "witch" by the world, avoids human contact and endures loneliness by going out only in the sparse hours of midnight. Dong-jin firmly believes that if he learns the laws of death surrounding Mi-jeong, she can live like ordinary people. In the last broadcast, Dong-jin's heartfelt love, which exploded with the confession "It hurts to think about it," was revisited.
#. Life's homework regarding first love
To Dong-jin, Mi-jeong was an unrecognized first love and a life's homework. In the past, during high school, Dong-jin always worried about her as she wandered alone to remote places. He installed a sunscreen to shield her from the harsh sunlight and diligently erased the graffiti "Park Mi-jeong witch" that students carved on benches. After sending her away without saying a word, he entered college and worked various part-time jobs during the semester to get reference books and online lecture credits. This was with the hope that Mi-jeong, who had not completed her third year of high school, would take the college entrance exam. However, there was no Mi-jeong in his hometown, Taebaek, during the vacation. Once again, a step too late, Dong-jin finally realized his feelings of "I missed you" and burst into tears for the first time.
As time passed, the forgotten first love became Dong-jin's life's homework again because of his mother, Mi-sook (Jang Hye-jin). Mi-sook, who felt guilty and remorse for expelling Mi-jeong, who had nowhere to go and no one she knew, read and reread the flawed report written by her son denying the existence of "witches" and firmly believed that Mi-jeong was not a witch. So, sensing death, she left a last wish to "please deliver my apology," and Dong-jin vowed, "Like my mother's earnest wish, I will prove that you are not a witch."
#. Big data mining by the industry's top data miner
As Mi-sook said, "Those we need to meet will meet someday," Dong-jin met Mi-jeong again after 10 years as if it were fate. Mi-jeong was still living a lonely life, disconnecting herself from the world. For her, the entirety of the world was just a small rooftop room, and with the help of her only friend, Eun-sil (Jang Hee-ryeong), who is a broadcast station producer, she maintained her livelihood through translation work. The only outing she had was giving food to stray cats at dawn. Watching her, Dong-jin felt a deep pain in his heart.
Dong-jin, who was the highest-paid data miner in the industry, began his journey to lift Mi-jeong's curse with what he does best. He investigated incidents related to her and conducted interviews with victims to gather data and analyze statistics. Based on this, he deduced a hypothesis: being within 10 meters of Mi-jeong, exchanging conversations, knowing her name, and confessing love to her was dangerous. Moreover, violating all these laws would surely result in death. Dong-jin himself experienced an accident where a tape measure swung back and grazed his neck, causing him to bleed when he approached a space where she was within 10 meters.
#. Test that risks death
However, a hypothesis is just a hypothesis, and there remained the possibility of errors that had not yet been identified. Relying solely on past memories had its limits in reducing errors. Thus, Dong-jin concluded that he must directly verify whether the "laws of death" still apply at present. And the test subject was none other than Dong-jin himself. If the hypothesis is correct, Dong-jin, who has satisfied all the conditions, could die. However, he did not hesitate. He needed to predict the dangers and prevent additional victims to help Mi-jeong return to the world.
Dong-jin ultimately approached Mi-jeong disguised as a delivery worker. However, in a preview video released immediately after the broadcast of episode 7, Dong-jin was caught up in a dangerous situation, almost getting into a motorcycle accident in front of Mi-jeong's house or tripping and falling down the stairs. This raised fears that the laws of death had triggered for Dong-jin. It remains to be seen what ending awaits Dong-jin's poignant journey as the story of "Witch" amplifies expectations ahead of the remaining four episodes.
