In 'Single Because', Hwang Jung-eum unexpectedly shared her current situation living with her two sons after divorce.
On the 4th, during the broadcast of SBS Plus and E Channel's entertainment show 'Single Because', Hwang Jung-eum announced her appearance as 'Single Sister' and showcased her daily life with her two sons for the first time.
Regarding the reveal of her daily life, Hwang Jung-eum said, "Finally, here I am; it's nice," and introduced herself as the mother of Wang-sik and Kang-sik. Hwang Jung-eum married businessman Lee Yong-don, a former professional golfer, in 2016 and has two sons. She faced a crisis in her marriage and later reconciled, but filed for divorce again in February of last year.
When asked about her current situation, Hwang Jung-eum said, "There are so many things happening; I'm resolving them one by one while spending precious time with my two sons day by day," and noted, "Watching the kids grow, I'm overcoming the hardships and enduring it." After experiencing a divorce lawsuit last December, Hwang Jung-eum faced a high-intensity tax investigation. She conveyed her stance through her agency, Y1 Entertainment.
Her agency stated, "Actress Hwang Jung-eum underwent a tax investigation by the National Tax Service in 2023 and paid additional taxes that arose from discrepancies in interpretation during the coordination process between the tax authorities and her tax accountant." The agency added, "As reported, there were no tax issues during the purchase and sale of the property, and we want to inform you that there were no malicious acts such as tax evasion or non-payment of taxes," and continued, "Going forward, actress Hwang Jung-eum will faithfully fulfill her tax obligations as the duty of a citizen in accordance with relevant laws."
Amid this, Hwang Jung-eum, who rose from a bank balance of 487 won to becoming a CF star earning 1.2 billion won, publicly revealed her two-story detached dwelling for the first time. Recently, she attracted attention by purchasing a detached dwelling located in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, for about 4.6 billion won. However, the second floor was completely empty. It had been an office. She explained, "I didn't prepare a living space because my former husband arranged our newlywed home, and I didn't expect to get divorced; it all happened so suddenly..." She started by revealing that the detached dwelling had been remodeled from an office. Hwang Jung-eum said, "Suddenly, I needed a home, and fortunately, there was a timing when the tenant was leaving, so I'm living in the office for now."
At that time, someone helped with childcare in the kitchen. It turned out to be her mother. Hwang Jung-eum said, "I live with my mom," noting that her mother takes care of the children and manages household chores, while she herself works hard to support the family financially. She also mentioned, "There's an aunt who has been helping for eight years."
After sending her energetic eldest son Wang-sik and cute youngest son Kang-sik off to school, Hwang Jung-eum looked at her sons with affectionate eyes. She said, "They are my treasure number one," and expressed, "I feel they came to this world to make me happy," showcasing her affection. Hwang Jung-eum remarked, "The kids are so lovely; the best thing I have done since I was born is giving birth to my two sons," adding, "Life seems to have good days, painful days, and happy days. Difficult times have made me stronger, and now a day when I can smile like this has come. As a single person, I'm sufficient as I am; there's no need to strive too hard."
After seeing off her sons to school under challenging circumstances, Hwang Jung-eum made a phone call. It was to director Kim Byeong-woo, the legendary director of the 'High Kick' series. Hwang Jung-eum said, "You are the one who made it possible for me to act; I was cast in 'High Kick Through the Roof' after you saw me in 'We Got Married' despite my lack of acting skills."
On that day, when Hwang Jung-eum told director Kim Byeong-woo, "I want to work with you," he quipped, "Now I'm a has-been," to which Hwang Jung-eum replied, "I'm also a has-been." Kim continued, "Let's see each other at the New Year's party soon," and Hwang Jung-eum responded, "If Choi Daniel has time, let's meet up," adding that he reached out to her right after her divorce. Surprised, Kim asked, "Did Daniel get divorced?" To which Hwang Jung-eum clarified, "No, he contacted me when the news about my divorce broke," and added that Daniel is still single, humorously hinting at a reunion of 'High Kick' alumni.
