Taiwanese popular actor Wang Da-lu (33), who gained popularity in Korea with 'Our Times,' has been arrested on attempted murder charges and released on bail of about 200 million won.
On the 5th (local time), according to Taiwanese media such as ET Today and TVBS, Wang Da-lu was released after posting bail of 5 million New Taiwan dollars (about 220 million won) at the New Taipei District Court. His departure and residence have been restricted. After being investigated for attempted murder charges, Wang Da-lu's charges were changed to assault and illegal use of personal information. He sparked controversy by returning home with a smile at the time of his release. He did not respond to reporters' questions, including whether he intended to apologize.
The court reportedly ruled that considering the second search and seizure by the prosecution and police following his evasion of military service and the fact that an accomplice has been detained, there was no need for detention as there was no danger of evidence destruction.
Previously, Wang Da-lu called for a taxi at the airport in April of last year, and after boarding, he argued with the driver about his dissatisfaction with the driving. After arriving at his destination, he got out of the car, leaving his belongings inside, and engaged in a profanity-laden argument with the driver. Holding a grudge, Wang Da-lu reportedly confided the incident to a wealthy acquaintance, who then sent someone to locate and beat the driver. As a result, the victim sustained serious injuries. Local media described the victim's condition as 'near death.'
This incident came to light belatedly during the police investigation into Wang Da-lu's military evasion allegations. The police reportedly discovered evidence of incitement to assault and video footage of the driver being assaulted on his cellphone. Wang Da-lu was also released on bail of 150,000 New Taiwan dollars when he was initially arrested for military evasion charges.
