However, Kim Heung-ki collapsed from a brain hemorrhage after finishing a performance of the play 'Equus' in Daehakro, Seoul, in 2004, and underwent surgery. He remained in a coma for five years, battling his condition. Amid tears from peers in the entertainment industry, the deceased has now been peacefully resting for 16 years.
On this day, South Korea's first culinary researcher, Ha Sun-jeong, passed away due to illness. She was 87 years old. Born on June 7, 1922, she graduated from Seoul Women's Teachers College and established the country's first cooking academy, 'Sudo Home Cooking Academy,' in Jongno, Seoul, in 1954, becoming the first cooking academy director in South Korea.
Afterward, she solidified her position as a businesswoman by producing kimchi and pickled seafood products named after herself. As South Korea's first culinary researcher, she also held a traditional Korean cooking exhibition in Paris in 1984. Thanks to her dedication to culinary research, she was awarded the National Medal of Merit, Mugunghwa Medal, in 1989.
