On Oct. 6 (Thursday), SBS’s entertainment program "Jungle Chef 2 - Peru Chef" (hereinafter "Peru Chef") will embark on a "delicacy hunting" journey right in the heart of the jungle. From legendary fish in ancient mythology to carnivorous fish, a plethora of ingredients exclusive to the Amazon is expected to make an appearance, raising anticipation for a culinary journey that is as challenging as the rugged location.
The two chefs, Choi Hyun-seok and Ryu Soo-young, who found themselves in the heart of the Amazon, visited the "Belen Market," also known as a "collection of global delicacies." They were shocked by the ingredients displayed at the entrance, such as crocodile meat, giant rat meat, and roasted piranha, and they remarked on the class of the Amazon market. Alongside them, Choi Daniel and Kim Ok-bin also noted, "It was the most shocking place I’ve ever seen in my life," deepening the intrigue. MC Jeon Hyun-moo, who watched the scene, expressed disbelief, saying, "That’s nonsense," and "I would cry if I went there," while Choi Hyun-seok vowed, "Next season, I will definitely take the MCs with me," bringing laughter to the studio. Curiosity intensifies as people wonder what the identity and ingredients of the shocking Amazon market will be.
Meanwhile, Chef Choi Hyun-seok, who visited the Amazon market for the first time in his life, is reportedly fulfilling a bucket list from his 31-year culinary career in the jungle. It is said that even amidst the feast of bizarre Amazonian dishes, Chef Choi Hyun-seok made an effort not to lose his "culinary inspiration." In particular, he discovered the "Arapaima," the world's largest freshwater fish, which weighs up to 100 kg, and reportedly could not hide his excited smile, exploding with cooking ideas. He also surprised the studio MCs by introducing a fine dining-style dinner menu on the spot, promising the best jungle meal. What new "Amazon fine dining course" will emerge from Chef Choi Hyun-seok's fingertips will be revealed on the broadcast.
Additionally, it draws attention that Choi Hyun-seok, Ryu Soo-young, and Choi Daniel will experience embarrassing humiliations at the Amazon market. They reportedly refused to taste the market food, passing it among themselves in fear of unidentified bizarre dishes. In contrast, Kim Ok-bin, who is set to embody the "Amazon Warrior," boldly challenged various street foods, including spicy peppers warned against by locals, thus becoming the official "Kim Ok-bin the Brave."
Studio MC Jeon Hyun-moo remarked, "This is the first market in entertainment history where the members didn’t eat that much," criticizing the other members. Ryu Soo-young, red-faced with embarrassment, said, "We were cowardly," offering late excuses, while Choi Hyun-seok and Choi Daniel reportedly brushed it off with laughter. There is growing curiosity about whether the "Peru Chef" members will adapt to the unfamiliar and intense Amazon ingredients and survive.
SBS’s "Peru Chef," featuring a survival story of "delicacy hunting" amidst the mysteries and fears of nature, will air on Oct. 6 at 9 p.m. (end)
