"Pop's back is a lie" Moon So-ri confessed that she was worried after listening to her young counterpart IU.
On the morning of the 5th, the production presentation for the Netflix original series "Pop's back is a lie" was held at the Grand Ballroom on the 3rd floor of the Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Attendees included director Kim Won-seok, lead actors IU, Park Bo-gum, Moon So-ri, and Park Hae-jun.
"Pop's back is a lie" depicts the adventurous life of 'the rebellious girl' Ae-soon (played by IU) and 'the foolish strongman' Kwan-sik (played by Park Bo-gum), born in the 1960s in Jeju, unfolded over the four seasons. Writer Im Sang-chun, who captivated viewers with her unique storytelling in productions such as "When the Camellia Blooms" and "Fight for My Way," has joined forces with director Kim Won-seok, known for providing empathy, comfort, and encouragement through works like "The Man from Nowhere," "Signal," and "Misaeng." It is reported that about 600 billion won was invested in the production, and the ensemble of star actors IU, Park Bo-gum, Moon So-ri, and Park Hae-jun is expected to resonate deeply across generations with their strong acting skills.
IU portrays the teenage and early twenties version of Ae-soon, while Moon So-ri plays the character as an adult. An interesting aspect is that Moon So-ri, who had a daughter after marriage, was re-portrayed by IU, showcasing her ability to play two roles. Kwan-sik's childhood is depicted by Park Bo-gum, while the middle-aged role is played by Park Hae-jun.
Moon So-ri said, "I originally liked director Kim Won-seok and loved writer Im Sang-chun's 'When the Camellia Blooms', so I was delighted when the script was given to me. I jumped with joy. I cried so much as I turned the pages of the first draft. I thought a lot about my parents. The amount of tears I shed reading the script was unprecedented since my debut. I thought, 'If I cried this much, I have to do it.'"
She continued, "At that time, I asked, 'Who will play young Ae-soon?' and they said IU would do it, so I thought, 'Well, this is a bit difficult...' I really wanted to, but I wondered if it was possible since my young counterpart was IU. I hesitated and felt panic, thinking about how to handle this. However, I thought, 'The staff will help, they will provide consolidation, and I should give it a try,' and participated with that mindset."
MC Park Kyung-rim commented, "It's a transformation that is evident to anyone. That's why Moon So-ri was cast," to which Moon So-ri replied, "I am grateful in both heart and words," eliciting laughter.
Meanwhile, "Pop's back is a lie" will be released on March 7 and will air a total of 16 episodes over 4 weeks, with 4 episodes released every Friday.
