'Solo Living' has captured both ratings and buzz since the new season.
In the 9th episode of the jointly produced SBS Plus and E Channel entertainment show 'Solo Living' aired on the 4th, the two MCs Shin Dong-yeob and Huang Jung-eum, along with 'Solo Sister' Yoon Se-ah, were present, and for the first time on the show, Huang Jung-eum unveiled her daily life, while the new 'Solo Sister' Lee Min-young's stories were captivating the viewers. According to Nielsen Korea, on that day, 'Solo Living' exceeded a peak rating of 1% for the target demographic (below is the sum of both companies, pay broadcasting), recording a peak household rating of 1.8%. It claimed the top rating among entertainment programs in the same time slot for the target demographic (ages 20-49) and hinted at a strong performance right from the first episode of the new season. Additionally, the article topped various portals and ranked 3rd in the Wave entertainment TOP 20 and 2nd as a search term in Daum's entertainment TV, showcasing explosive reactions in terms of buzz and drawing attention to its progress.
First, Lee Min-young, the 'homebody,' had a simple but special day. She bragged about her clear skin after only washing her face with water upon waking up in the morning, explaining, "Not doing bad things is my secret to skincare." She then introduced various parts of her 'solo house,' catching attention with a refrigerator decorated with magnets from around the world.
Lee Min-young noted, "Whether it's a person or an object, lasting a long time is the best," adding, "I love to travel, so I buy magnets from the countries I visit. I think I've been to about 20 countries." She continued, "At the end of the year, everyone is excited, but I actually tend to feel lower. Also, it's hard to meet friends at the end of the year because they're busy with family or kids, so I end up going alone. I celebrate the New Year in different countries every year."
While preparing breakfast, Lee Min-young put various ingredients into yogurt and squeezed a jar of honey into her mouth, making everyone burst into laughter. Right after, while wearing goggles and gloves, she enthusiastically started cleaning, even disassembling the vacuum cleaner to clean it thoroughly, showcasing her 'cleaning fanatic' side. During Lee Min-young's quirky morning, both Shin Dong-yeob, Huang Jung-eum, and Yoon Se-ah were astonished, and then Lee Min-young sat down in the living room to rest but suddenly started writing something in a notebook. Yoon Se-ah asked, "Are you writing a love letter?" to which Lee Min-young replied, "I’m about to move soon. I want to cancel my gym membership, so I'm going to make a call." Shortly after, Lee Min-young wrote down anticipated questions and answers in her notebook, memorizing them as if rehearsing a script. She stated, "When I talk to someone in an unfamiliar field or a difficult person, I jot down notes beforehand and practice. That way, I feel more relaxed," revealing her 'I' tendency. Finally, after preparing mentally, Lee Min-young called the gym, but struggled with an unexpected conversation and hung up, bringing laughter.
A little later, when she went to her regular Pilates studio to say goodbye, she added to the 'bittersweet' moment by saying, "I’ll come again next time." Lastly, she visited the new house she was moving to and checked on the interior, but was unable to bring out any of the prepared questions there either. In the end, she could only listen to the staff’s explanations and, saying "Thank you," hurriedly returned home. To relieve stress, she cooked spicy ramen, had a satisfying meal, and happily wrapped up what had been a rather tough day.
Following 'I' Lee Min-young, it was now time to unveil 'E' Huang Jung-eum's solo life. The 'Jeong-eum House,' which gained attention for its '46 billion won' standalone house, featured a spacious yard and a living room with large windows that captivated the gaze. However, there was a commercial restroom on the second floor of the house, and unlike typical family houses, concrete finishing materials were used, which raised some eyebrows.
Huang Jung-eum revealed, "Actually, this house was previously rented out as an office. However, I needed a place to live urgently after my divorce, and then the tenant moved out just in time, so I quickly brought the kids here and I'm living roughly," showcasing her 'Jeong-eum perspective.' Shortly after, Huang Jung-eum woke up in the living room with her two sons. Looking lovingly at her reliable first son Wang-sik and her adorable second son Kang-sik, Huang Jung-eum immediately prepared for their school and daycare. Despite the hectic situation, Huang Jung-eum mentioned, "The kids are growing up too quickly, and I want to take in every moment of their growth. So when I have time, I always spend it with the kids," holding their hands as they walked to school together. Particularly, she showed a principled 'educational outlook' by being endlessly affectionate to her children while also being strict when necessary.
After heading out, Huang Jung-eum expressed her overflowing excitement in a supercar. Regarding this supercar, Huang Jung-eum candidly confessed, "I bought it as a gift to myself when I decided to get a divorce. It was quite expensive, so I have to work hard to pay for it." Shin Dong-yeob asked, "Have you ever regretted buying that car?" Huang Jung-eum replied, "Not at all. I tend to spend money I expect to earn in the future rather than what I have now. Then I end up waking up early to work," once again preaching her 'Jeong-eum perspective.'
Huang Jung-eum also shared the mental struggles she went through after leaving the group Sugar and transitioning to acting. She recalled, "I felt my acting skills were lacking, and my self-esteem sank to the bottom. So, I gritted my teeth and practiced acting 24 hours a day. Back then, I had as many as 10 acting teachers."
Later, when the kids returned home, Huang Jung-eum played with them wholeheartedly, engaging in games of tag and trampoline. Eventually, she became exhausted, but she managed to grill some meat using camping equipment and even made curry udon, attentively taking care of her two sons. Huang Jung-eum said, "The best thing I've ever done in my life is giving birth to Wang-sik and Kang-sik," and noted, "There are good days and painful days, but because I have my two sons, I am the happiest person in the world," offering quiet inspiration and lingering emotion.
