Actors So Yoo-jin and Song Jin-woo have presented points of interest to spark curiosity about 'The Land of Villains.'
Set to premiere on KBS 2TV on the 19th, 'The Land of Villains' (directed by Kim Young-jo, Choi Jeong-eun, written by Chae Woo, Park Kwang-yeon) is a situational comedy drama that captures the sometimes rough, sometimes warm daily lives of K-couples and their vibrant families.
In the drama, So Yoo-jin plays the role of O Yu-jin, the younger sister of O Na-ra and a culinary researcher. Although she often has disputes with her older sister Na-ra, she becomes fiercely protective whenever someone bothers Na-ra. Song Jin-woo portrays Yu-jin's husband, Song Jin-woo. As the head of the family, he lacks authority but will showcase a perfect chemistry with his family thanks to his never-tiring power mentality and passion.
So Yoo-jin, who appears in a sitcom for the first time in 19 years, noted, "I was really glad to hear the news that a family sitcom is making a comeback after such a long time. After reading the script, I thought it was a work that could make people laugh without being too provocative," revealing her affection for 'The Land of Villains.' He later mentioned, "In the drama, O Yu-jin is a talent who has completed a doctorate in food and nutrition at a prestigious university, so the writer mentioned in our first meeting that she hoped to convey the feel of 'a mother from Seoul National University.' I still remember joking that there is no theater and film department at Seoul National University, so I graduated from Dongguk University, which made everyone laugh," referring to his conversation with the writer before filming.
He also shared a behind-the-scenes tidbit while preparing for the character, saying, "During the script reading, I had poor eyesight and read with glasses, and the director said it suited the intelligent image of O Yu-jin. Because of that, there are many scenes filmed while wearing glasses during production."
On the other hand, Song Jin-woo commented on his character of the same name, saying, "Innocence, love for family, recklessness, adventure, simplicity - these are essentially traits I possess, as my character's name is Song Jin-woo. However, I think the difference is that if one lives like Song Jin-woo in the sitcom, one would lose their livelihood, so I try to be more rational and realistic." He continued, "I would like to describe the Song Jin-woo character as 'instinctively faithful,' 'innocent,' and 'the youngest in the hierarchy,' explaining that 'Jin-woo is an adult but causes a lot of trouble and has many unresolved issues, being the lowest in the hierarchy, including the 10-year-old youngest son Song Ba-da (played by Jo Dan).
Meanwhile, Song Jin-woo noted, "Viewers also have their own roles within the families they watch. By comparing themselves, they can empathize if it's similar, or feel vicarious satisfaction if it's different, which will provide great enjoyment while watching." So Yoo-jin added, "The stories of couples and the stories of children are edited together. Although the themes are the same, you will be watching two stories in one episode, so I think you can watch it joyfully and comfortably."
Additionally, regarding the atmosphere on set, So Yoo-jin remarked, "The set is truly the embodiment of a sitcom. As a joke, we always say among ourselves that we need to create a work to capture how we are filming this project. There are laughs non-stop, and we all try to create enjoyable works together with ad-libs." In response, Song Jin-woo expressed, "The chemistry with So Yoo-jin, Song Kang (played by Eun-chan), and Song Ba-da, as well as the rapport with my sister-in-law O Na-ra (played by O Na-ra), is amazing, so I think the viewers will be satisfied with this project."
Finally, So Yoo-jin and Song Jin-woo expressed to the viewers, "We hope 'The Land of Villains' will be remembered as season 1. We want to bring joy and laughter to the viewers with seasons 2 and 3 as well," and added, "'The Land of Villains' has immense charm as a work that families can watch together and laugh, so we ask for your love and viewership."
