"Undercover High School" is responsible for viewers' laughter with its delightful chemistry among the characters.
According to FUNdex, the official platform of Good Data Corporation, the MBC weekend drama "Undercover High School" (planned by Namgoong Seongwoo, written by Lim Youngbin, directed by Choi Jeongin; hereafter referred to as "Underschool") ranked first for two consecutive weeks in the TV-OTT drama popularity chart during the 4th week of February following the 3rd week. Additionally, it also secured the top spot in the combined TV popularity chart for drama and non-drama for two consecutive weeks, and Seo Kang-joon demonstrated high popularity by ranking first in the cast popularity chart for two consecutive weeks.
Among them, "Undercover High School" skillfully alternates between seriousness and cheerfulness, captivating the home audience. In particular, the episode featuring the National Intelligence Service's Domestic Team 4, who band together to help Jung Hae-seong (played by Seo Kang-joon), who is disguised as a student, generates big laughs.
First, while searching for the pendulum clock, which is the clue to the hidden second urban legend in the school, Hae-seong discovers that there is the same clock in the student council room. Determined to become an officer to enter the student council room, the members of Domestic Team 4 of the National Intelligence Service set out to gather signatures from 100 students to meet the requirement. Team leader Ahn Seok-ho (played by Jeon Bae-soo) wears a puppet costume and distributes snacks, while Park Mi-jeong (played by Yun Ga-i) and Koh Young-hoon (played by Jo Bok-rae) don shiny outfits and perform dazzling dances to lure the students. While watching this, Hae-seong gets caught by Seok-ho while trying to escape and ultimately joins the group on stage, bringing the house down with their synchronized dance. This scene is considered captivatingly powerful.
The chemistry between Hae-seong and Seok-ho was also outstanding. While circling the old building, Hae-seong encounters troublemakers and is about to respond in anger, when Seok-ho, dressed as a monk, appears with a halo, saying, "Hae-seong, you must endure," delivering a fresh surprise of laughter.
The home decoration operation by Domestic Team 4 added more fun. While preparing for school, Hae-seong is supposed to go to reserve forces training but skips school under the pretext of being sick. However, the news of Oh Soo-a's (played by Jin Ki-joo) home visit raises alarms. Particularly, since Hae-seong's residence, listed in the student record, is a rooftop room that was vacant, the situation escalated enormously. Hae-seong, Seok-ho, Mi-jeong, and Young-hoon were able to overcome the crisis by gradually filling the space with home appliances borrowed from a neighbor. Thus, the lively teamwork of the National Intelligence Service Domestic Team 4 has infused vitality into the drama and received warm responses.
