The 'Undercover High School' that announced Seo Kang-joon's first return after military discharge has garnered intense interest from overseas viewers and has settled in the upper ranks of the Viu chart.
According to the weekly chart for the fourth week of February (Feb. 24 - Mar. 2) announced on the 5th by Viu, Asia's largest regional over-the-top (OTT) platform, the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Undercover High School' has ranked second in Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, respectively. It also ranked fourth in Singapore and fifth in Hong Kong, demonstrating strength in the five major Southeast Asian countries.
'Undercover High School', starring Seo Kang-joon and Jin Ki-joo, depicts the tumultuous activities of a National Intelligence Service agent who goes undercover as a high school student to find the missing gold bullion of Emperor Gojong. This fresh combination of espionage action and school drama has caught attention, showcasing the diverse genre experiments of K-drama resonating with global viewers.
In particular, as previous works set in school settings like 'Study Group' and 'Assembled Family' have recently become hits, there is anticipation whether 'Undercover High School' will establish itself as another representative work amid the ongoing K-school boom.
Meanwhile, Viu is a regional OTT platform under Hong Kong's PCCW that showcases popular Korean content to 16 countries overseas, including Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. It also plans to launch a variety of K-content, including currently airing dramas 'Study Group', 'Please Take Care of the Eagle 5 Brothers!', and 'Witch', as well as 'The Art of Negotiation'.
