The holiday period saw significant gains in new dramas and entertainment programs, signaling a positive outlook for viewership metrics on Wavve.
On the 5th, the online video service Wavve reported that the number of new paid subscribers due to dramas and entertainment during the last week (Feb. 24 - Mar. 3) increased by about 36% compared to the previous week. It is interpreted as reflecting the box office success of the new dramas 'Treasure Island', 'Undercover High School', and the new entertainment program 'The Gods of Love 2'.
The dramas 'Treasure Island' and 'Undercover High School' premiered together on Friday (Feb. 21) last week.
The SBS drama 'Treasure Island' depicts the revenge of the protagonist, Seo Dong-joo, who hacks into a political slush fund of 2 trillion won to fight against the absolute evil that killed him and to bring down that world. The collaboration between writer Lee Myung-hee of 'Money Flower' and director Jin Chang-kyu of 'Military Prosecutor Doberman' drew attention even before airing, showcasing the overwhelming acting skills and presence of actors Park Hyung-sik and Heo Jun-ho.
The MBC drama 'Undercover High School' follows the exploits of a National Intelligence Service agent who disguises as a high school student to track down the whereabouts of the missing gold bullion of Emperor Gojong. Actor Seo Kang-joon plays the undercover agent, while actress Jin Ki-joo portrays a temporary teacher at the school, and actress Kim Shin-rok plays the role of the school's director, driving the show's unconventional plot.
The performance of the two dramas, which have very different styles, is highly competitive. As of the current second week after airing, 'Treasure Island' ranks first in Wavve's metrics for new paid subscribers, viewing hours, and viewers in the drama category, while 'Undercover High School' follows closely in second place. The increase compared to the previous week is also similar, raising interest in whether this fierce competition will continue until the final episode.
In the Wavve entertainment section, 'The Gods of Love 2', which premiered last week, recorded the third highest new paid subscriber attraction. This figure represents a slight increase of 3.6% compared to the same period of Season 1, indicating a smooth start with better performance than the previous season.
'The Gods of Love' is a dating reality program where MZ generation fortunetellers predict their and others' fates while searching for their destined partner, and it has recorded high viewership metrics within Wavve since previous seasons. With Season 2 airing, viewership for Season 1 has also seen a resurgence. In the week Season 2 premiered, viewing time for Season 1 increased by about 12 times compared to the previous week, indicating a notable rise in linked viewing consumption.
The dramas 'Treasure Island', 'Undercover High School', and the entertainment program 'The Gods of Love 2' are all available for viewing on Wavve.
