Comedian Son Heon-soo revealed the story behind his 500 million won debt.
On the broadcast of KBS 'Morning Yard' on the 5th, a special program titled 'Challenge! The stage of dreams' was presented as part of the 'Foundation Planning - KBS' Star Singing Contest'.
On this day, Son Heon-soo, one of the stars produced by KBS, introduced himself saying, "Son Heon-soo who secured a win at the 2024 Challenge! The stage of dreams KBS foundation special."
He noted, "My family was incredibly rich. But we went bankrupt when I was 3 years old, so I don't remember it. Then, due to my father's failed business, I had a poor childhood. I delivered newspapers from 5th grade and worked during high school, even attaching eyes to dolls and relocating duck boats at the Han River dock, while nurturing my dream of becoming a comedian. I used that money to attend a comedy academy. And I confidently passed the KBS public recruitment as the 11th comedian."
He shared, "As soon as I debuted, I gained immense popularity with my absurd comedy. I made appearances in entertainment information programs for eight consecutive weeks and worked on 70 advertisements. Then I wanted to challenge myself with new things. So, I directed three films, four advertisements, released four disco albums, two trot albums, and ventured into business. But then I completely failed. I lost all my 1 billion won and ended up with over 500 million won in debt."
Son Heon-soo said, "However, my complete failure became a cure rather than poison for me. It made me reflect on myself. And miraculously, at that time, I received an offer to appear on '6 o'clock my hometown.' At first, the production team suggested just trying it for four weeks, so I gave it my all. As a result, I became a fixed member. Currently, as the youth president representing '6 o'clock my hometown,' I travel across the country. I harvest garlic, catch fish, repair roofs, build fences, and renovate a 40-year-old mud house. As I keep doing this, my skills improve. When I work hard, the elderly prepare meals for me, and the countryside dinner tables make me happy."
He stated, "Thanks to the elderly, I'm currently enjoying idol-level popularity. To what extent? Some elderly people throw their canes and run up to me when they see me filming. Others come out while getting acupuncture at a clinic. Many elderly people say they'll set me up on a blind date, wanting to make me their son-in-law, but I've been married for a year and six months." He added, "I, Son Heon-soo, will be a great son of KBS, raising my hand while crossing the street and maintaining public morals, as befits the youth president of '6 o'clock my hometown.'"
Afterward, Son Heon-soo performed 'Bbangppare' passionately to create a lively stage. In particular, he responded to provocations suggesting he could stop broadcasting, saying, "I paid off all my debts last year, thanks to KBS. So now KBS has to take responsibility. I need at least 30 more years before I buy a house and get my daughter married."
