Director Bong Joon-ho's new release "Mickey 17," his first in six years, attracted more than 1 million viewers during its opening weekend and the Samil holiday.
According to the integrated ticketing network on the 4th, "Mickey 17" drew over 1,048,000 viewers (68.2% market share) from the 1st to the 3rd, taking the top spot at the box office. The film, which opened on the 28th of last month, recorded the highest opening score of the year with approximately 248,000 viewers on its debut day.
During the holiday period, the film garnered approximately 356,000 viewers on the 1st, 376,000 on the 2nd, and 316,000 on the 3rd, maintaining an audience size in the 300,000s throughout. Its cumulative audience number is approximately 1,302,000.
This work, the first since "Parasite," depicts the story of a clone named Mickey (played by Robert Pattinson) who is sent to an icy planet to perform dangerous tasks and is reborn each time he dies. The film has received generally positive responses, earning a score of 91% on the CGV Golden Egg Index, which is determined based on actual audience evaluations.
Marvel's new release "Captain America: Brave New World" ranked second at the box office during the Samil holiday, but its audience count was around 119,000 (7.5%), only one-tenth that of "Mickey 17." The third place went to the occult animation "Exorcist Diary" (approximately 98,000 viewers, 6.3%), and fourth place went to Kim Hye-young's independent film "It's Okay, It's Okay, It's Okay!" (approximately 33,000 viewers, 2.0%).
