'Treasure Island' broke its own viewership record for the fourth consecutive time. It is a force of nature itself.
SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Treasure Island' (written by Lee Myung-hee, directed by Jin Chang-kyu) captures the audience with Park Hyung-sik's (as Seo Dong-joo) bold acting transformation, the explosive combination of Park Hyung-sik and Heo Joon-ho (as Yeom Jang-seon) that captures both acting skills and buzz, three-dimensional characters fiercely pursuing desire, a storyline that sweeps like a storm, and highly engaging direction, all garnering high praise.
What is particularly noteworthy is the unusual upward trend of 'Treasure Island.' On Feb. 21, the first episode of 'Treasure Island' recorded a nationwide rating of 6.1%, 6% in the metropolitan area, and a momentary peak of 8.2%, quickly rising to the top of the Friday mini-series. The second episode, aired on Feb. 22, achieved a nationwide rating of 8.1%, an astounding increase of 2 percentage points compared to the first episode. In the metropolitan area, it registered 7.8%, and a momentary peak of 9.9%, raising expectations of a two-digit breakthrough after just two episodes.
As two new dramas debuted simultaneously in a ratings showdown, 'Treasure Island' signaled a pleasant start by securing the top spot in the Friday-Saturday mini-series and weekly mini-series rankings from the first week of airing. In the content popularity indicator provided by KinoLights' Today's Content comprehensive ranking, 'Treasure Island' also rose to the top, overtaking competing works.
In the second week of broadcasting, the upward trend of 'Treasure Island' continued. On Feb. 28, the third episode recorded a nationwide rating of 8.8%, 8.9% in the metropolitan area, and a momentary peak of 11.2%, increasing again compared to the previous episode. On March 1, the fourth episode recorded a nationwide rating of 10.2% and a momentary peak of 11.3%, easily surpassing the two-digit mark. The channel's competitiveness key indicator, the 2049 rating, also claimed the top spot for two consecutive episodes at 2.4% (3rd episode) and 2.8% (4th episode). The fourth episode's 2049 rating ranked first among all genres of programs aired on Saturday.
'Treasure Island' has broken its own viewership record for four consecutive times from the first to the fourth episode. Additionally, its buzz is continuously rising. Immediately after the broadcast, numerous articles related to 'Treasure Island' flooded various social media and community sites, and the major video clips of 'Treasure Island' are also experiencing explosive increases in views.
This is attributed to the classic revenge drama lowering the viewer's entry barrier while enhancing immersion with a fast-paced storyline and sensuous, trendy direction, as well as the chilling performances of the actors adding weight to the play, creating a perfect synergy. In particular, the 'breathtaking ending' that makes viewers unable to endure without watching the next episode is considered the top contributor to the rising viewership of 'Treasure Island.'
Only four episodes have aired out of a total of 16 episodes. However, the upward trend is a force of nature itself. Expectations are high for the uninterrupted box office run of 'Treasure Island' over the remaining 12 episodes.
