On the 3rd, during the live broadcast of MBC FM4U's 'Two O'Clock Date with Ahn Young-mi,' guest Cha Joo-young spoke candidly about her life work, tvN's 'Queen Wongyeong,' saying, "Historical dramas are difficult. You have to base them on historical facts, so it doesn't seem like just acting well will suffice. I had to study a lot and seek a lot of advice. Balancing the work was challenging, but I felt I could do well."
He smiled in response to compliments about his expressive eyes, saying, "I'm the type who is faithful to the script. Surprisingly, I felt limitations in the actions shown by the queen role. Because it's a character that can't be too cute, I could only express myself through my eyes. I felt I had to tell the story with my eyes. Thank you for recognizing the vacant look in my eyes. 'Queen Wongyeong,' which ended last month, attracted attention for being a female-centric narrative reimagined from the perspective of Queen Wongyeong, rather than focusing on King Taejong Lee Bang-won, who has been highlighted numerous times. Cha Joo-young showcased her acting potential in the role of Queen Wongyeong, receiving praise from viewers as a "perfect casting" alongside Lee Hyun-wook, who played Lee Bang-won, proving its hot topic status.
However, before the airing, there were various controversies surrounding 'Queen Wongyeong,' from concerns about historical accuracy to 19+ exposure scenes during the broadcast. In fact, reports emerged during the airing stating that "the production team raised the level of exposure from the planning stage, and while Cha Joo-young and Lee Yi-dam filmed the scene dressed, the production team combined the footage with a body double."
Seemingly aware of this, Cha Joo-young cautiously replied, "If we could break through the difficult public opinion in the early stages, I think people would watch our piece. There are well-expressed parts, and there are parts that are disappointing. Some scenes were remade on set, and there are many scenes added in the later part. However, I felt that as long as we put out what we have, it would be fine, but we have achieved a lot more."
What was the family's reaction? Cha Joo-young noted, "My parents were opposed at first. They seemed to want to prevent me from stepping in. However, after 'Queen Wongyeong' ended, they told me that I had worked hard. I acted as Queen Wongyeong thinking about my grandmother and maternal grandmother. My parents knew that, so they said, 'Thank you for your hard work.'"
