This year's Academy Award for Best Actor went to Adrien Brody.
On March 2 (local time), the 97th Academy Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. American comedian Conan O'Brien, known for his delightful wit, hosted the event for the first time.
On this day, one of the major institutional sectors, the Best Actor award, saw competition from Adrien Brody in 'The Brutalist', Timothée Chalamet in 'Complete Unknown', Sebastian Stan in 'The Apprentice', Ralph Fiennes in 'Conclave', and Colman Domingo in 'Sing Sing'. As the presentation continued with last year's Academy Award winner for Best Actor, Cillian Murphy, Adrien Brody took home the trophy.
Adrien Brody opened his remarks by saying, "Thank you, God, for this blessed life. I want to start by humbly expressing my gratitude. I am thankful for all the love that respects and appreciates me and this world. I consider myself lucky." He added, "Acting is a very fragile profession. It looks very glamorous, and at times it may seem so, but one privilege I have gained by being here is perspective. It doesn't matter at what stage of a career you are or what you have accomplished. Everything can disappear."
He continued, "I am grateful to still be able to do what I love. Receiving such an award means there is a destination." He emphasized, "This is similar to what my character mentions in the film. For me, it's the same. The pinnacle of a career is an opportunity. It's a chance to start over."
Adrien Brody expressed, "I hope to prove that I have the capability to take on meaningful and significant roles for the next 20 years," and added, "There are so many people to thank, so I will try to keep it short," expressing gratitude to Brady and partner Georgia.
He also said, "I know it's been a roller coaster of a time, but thank you for accepting me. And Dad, I will come back a winner."
Additionally, Adrien Brody said, "I should thank my parents. They provided me with a foundation of respect, kindness, and a great spirit, giving me the strength to pursue my dreams. I am here once again," and he shared meaningful messages about the aftermath of war, trauma, and prejudice, stating, "If we can learn from the past, it is to be vigilant against hatred.
Meanwhile, Adrien Brody previously won the Academy Award for Best Actor at the age of 29 for 'The Pianist'. After 'The Pianist', he challenged the Academy again for the second time, maintaining the record for the youngest Best Actor winner.
'The Brutalist' tells the story of a genius architect, László Tóth (played by Adrien Brody), who creates innovative designs inspired by the scars and traces of war. Adrien Brody, showcasing overwhelming acting ability, captured the Best Actor award again after 22 years since 'The Pianist.'
