'Treasure Island' broke its own record again, sweeping first place in ratings.
According to the ratings research company Nielsen Korea on Mar. 2, the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Treasure Island' (written by Lee Myung-Hee, directed by Jin Chang-Gyu), which aired on Mar. 1, recorded a nationwide rating of 10.2%, with a peak of 11.3%, comfortably surpassing the double digits and breaking its own record for the fourth consecutive time. This corresponds to first place in ratings for mini-series across all channels during the same time slot and first place in overall weekly mini-series ratings. The rating for the capital area also rose to 9.8%, up from the previous episode, and the 2049 rating also ranked first among all genres aired on Saturday with 2.8%. 'Treasure Island' shows a relentless upward momentum.
The broadcast that day depicted the story of Seo Dong-Joo (Park Hyung-Sik), who came back to life, and the characters driven by desire, including Yeom Jang-Seon (Heo Joon-Ho), Heo Il-Do (Lee Hae-Young), and Yeo Eun-Nam (Hong Hwa-Yeon), who are disturbed by Seo Dong-Joo's resurrection. Above all, the vast and unpredictable story, along with the 'crazy development' that makes the audience's heart race at the ending, heightened the immersion of the drama.
The fourth episode of 'Treasure Island' began with Seo Dong-Joo driving through a torrential downpour in the darkness. Feeling an extreme sense of anxiety as if being chased by someone, Seo Dong-Joo eventually caused a traffic accident and fell into the sea. Moments later, Seo Dong-Joo awakened to find Bae Won-Bae (Lee Yoo-Jun) in front of them, who had taken a luxury watch from Seo Dong-Joo floating on the beach earlier. Knowing neither if the situation was a dream or reality, Seo Dong-Joo had lost all other memories, recalling only someone calling out their name, thinking their name was Sung-Hyun.
Meanwhile, there were people in crisis because of the missing Seo Dong-Joo: Yeom Jang-Seon and Heo Il-Do. After learning late that Seo Dong-Joo had hacked into their 'National Love Fund,' specifically the political slush fund of 2 trillion won, Yeom Jang-Seon pressured Heo Il-Do with the murder charge of Seo Dong-Joo, demanding he return 2 trillion won. Heo Il-Do, in an effort to gather money to give to Yeom Jang-Seon, tried to access the safe of Cha Kang-Cheon (Woo Hyun), the chairman of Daesan Group, but he was frustrated because he couldn't figure out the password.
However, the resurrected Seo Dong-Joo was in a complete state of memory loss. Seo Dong-Joo called the only number left on their phone, and it was answered by Yeo Eun-Nam's husband, Yeom Hee-Cheol (Kwon Soo-Hyun). Unlike Seo Dong-Joo, who had lost their memory, Yeom Hee-Cheol recognized Seo Dong-Joo's voice and was furious, and this news reached Heo Il-Do as well. A while later, the phone rang again, and upon confirming Seo Dong-Joo's voice, Heo Il-Do muttered, 'Seo Dong-Joo, you have come back to life.'
Yeom Jang-Seon was pleased with Seo Dong-Joo's survival. Excited by the thought that he could finally retrieve the 2 trillion won, he immediately sent Heo Il-Do and his henchman Cheon Gu-Ho (Joo Yeon-Woo) to where Seo Dong-Joo was. This was an order to capture Seo Dong-Joo. At the same time, he prepared a torture room to make Seo Dong-Joo unable to avoid revealing the password to the hack. However, contrary to Yeom Jang-Seon's expectations, Seo Dong-Joo did not fall easily into his hands. Instead, Seo Dong-Joo saved the drowning Heo Il-Do, but Heo Il-Do pretended not to know Seo Dong-Joo, fearing the exposure of the murder charge.
Escaping from the tightening grip of Yeom Jang-Seon, Seo Dong-Joo headed to Seoul to find a clue hidden in the tuxedo they were wearing. Arriving at the place where tuxedos are sold, Seo Dong-Joo found Yeo Eun-Nam, who loved him dearly, and her husband, Yeom Hee-Cheol. The scene of Yeo Eun-Nam, shocked to see Seo Dong-Joo, and Seo Dong-Joo, who failed to recognize Yeo Eun-Nam, crossed paths, bringing 'Treasure Island' episode 4 to an end.
Episode 4 of 'Treasure Island' quickly yet intricately depicted the truth of Seo Dong-Joo's resurrection, the mysterious name 'Sung-Hyun' in Seo Dong-Joo's memory, and the turbulent desires of the characters being thrown into chaos by Seo Dong-Joo's return, providing an intense level of immersion. Viewers following the speedy developments felt emotional turmoil at the ending when Seo Dong-Joo and Yeo Eun-Nam reunited. At the same time, it left them anticipating whether Seo Dong-Joo truly lost their memory and what kind of revenge they would exact.
