'Mickey 17' topped the box office on Samil Day as well.
According to the statistics from the Film Promotion Committee's integrated ticketing system on March 2, 'Mickey 17' attracted 356,309 viewers in a single day on the 1st across 2,153 screens, reaching a cumulative audience of 610,714 and maintaining its position at number one in the box office.
On this day, 'Captain America: Brave New World' ranked second in the box office with a cumulative audience of 1,508,014 after drawing 33,725 viewers across 911 screens, while 'The Exorcist' attracted 33,725 viewers and secured the third position with a cumulative audience of 236,764. 'Mickey 17', which opened on the 28th of last month, achieved an opening score of 248,056, thereby claiming the number one spot at the box office.
This is the record for the highest opening score of a film released in theaters this year, surpassing the opening scores of 'The Black Nun' (163,727), 'Captain America: Brave New World' (123,237), and 'Hitman 2' (100,621) among box office hits in the first half of 2025. Additionally, it was noted that this figure was higher than the first-day audience count of 'The Spring of Seoul,' which recorded a cumulative 13,128,419 viewers and ranks ninth in the all-time box office (203,813 viewers). Furthermore, it surpassed the opening scores of Robert Pattinson's works that were well received domestically, including 'The Batman' (192,854) and 'Tenet' (137,740).
'Mickey 17' boasts overwhelming box office performance with virtually no competition, dominating the domestic box office. As evidenced by its 70% pre-sale rate before release, it has captivated a large audience for two consecutive days.
Having surpassed 600,000 viewers in just two days, 'Mickey 17' is expected to exceed 1 million viewers as early as today or at the latest by tomorrow.
Meanwhile, 'Mickey 17' (written and directed by Bong Joon-ho, produced by Plan B Entertainment, distributed by Warner Brothers Korea LLC) depicts the unpredictable story of Mickey (played by Robert Pattinson), a disposable being sent into dangerous missions. As Mickey faces his 17th death, Mickey 18 (played by Robert Pattinson) is printed after mistakenly thinking Mickey has died. Based on the science fiction novel 'Mickey 7' by U.S. author Edward Ashton, the film is a new adaptation by director Bong Joon-ho, who wrote the screenplay and directed the film. This is the director's new work released six years after the Palme d'Or-winning and four-time Academy Award-winning film 'Parasite', and it's the third overseas project following 'Okja' and 'Snowpiercer.'
