In Channel A's "Witch," Park Jin-young has finally completed the hypothesis surrounding Noh Jung-eui's "law of death." However, the moment he realizes that the prerequisite for that law to be triggered also applies to him, the tension reaches its peak.
In the fifth episode of Channel A's weekly drama "Witch," broadcast on 1st, Dong-jin (Park Jin-young) began a full-scale data collection to prove that Mi-jung (Noh Jung-eui) is a witch. To find a clue to break the curse placed on her, Dong-jin traveled back to his hometown, Taebaek, and inquired about incidents related to Mi-jung. The last incident in Taebaek was when Hyun-kyu (Lee Woo-je) was attacked by a wild boar, and after Mi-jung left, no further incidents had occurred.
With the help of a fellow alumnus, Da-eun (Kwon Han-sol), who became a teacher at Midong High School, the analysis of the data from that time yielded similar results. The incidents that occurred at Midong High School were concentrated between 2010 and 2012 when Mi-jung was enrolled. The fact that no incidents occurred in 2009 and 2013 indicated that Mi-jung was related to the incidents where male students had been injured or killed.
Thus, Dong-jin visited the victims to gather more detailed data. Hyun-kyu, the culprit of the last incident in Taebaek, had stayed with Mi-jung for over 10 minutes and had intended to confess his feelings. Do-hoon (Moon So-woong), who fell into a manhole while running away after cutting Mi-jung's rubber band when they were children, also liked her. Furthermore, Hong-mo (Jeong Seong-in), who had given Mi-jung candy on White Day and was involved in an accident, Joo-seong (Ryu Seong-rok), who slipped after giving Mi-jung a drink on picnic day, and Il-kyun (Kang Dong-hee), who injured his shoulder trying to impress Mi-jung while she was watching, all liked her.
There were further common patterns. Space, time, conversation, names, and expressions were precisely that. Based on this, Dong-jin formulated the following hypothesis: It is dangerous to be with Mi-jung. It is dangerous to talk with her, and it is dangerous to have a familiar relationship with her. Furthermore, it is dangerous to confess love to her. Breaking any of the aforementioned rules will certainly result in death, and the prerequisite for all these hypotheses is to have a favorable feeling for Mi-jung.
However, there was a victim to whom the "law of death" established did not apply. It was Hyun-cheol (Lee Bong-jun), the subway confessor who had approached Mi-jung in the first episode. Hyun-cheol, who works part-time at a movie theater, had his attention caught by Mi-jung, who would come watch movies alone during late night hours when no one was around. He had a favorable feeling for Mi-jung, spent a long time in the same space, engaged in many conversations, and even confessed to her. Mi-jung recognized him by seeing the name tag on his uniform.
According to Dong-jin's hypothesis, Hyun-cheol should have died, yet he was alive and well after Mi-jung had gotten off the subway that day, clutching his heart and collapsing. There was a variable that Dong-jin had not realized. It turned out that the name on his name tag was his movie theater nickname, and, of course, Mi-jung only knew him by that nickname. This was the reason Hyun-cheol could avoid death. In other words, it was dangerous if she knew his real name.
The range of dangerous spaces when with Mi-jung had also narrowed. All victims had been within 10 meters of her. The space was not limited to just the classroom. The area all around, above and below, was included. Therefore, Dong-jin measured the distance from his house to Mi-jung's rooftop railing. The distance was about 8 meters. Considering her room on the rooftop, it was roughly 10 meters.
At that moment, Mi-jung came out of her room and began walking in her own world on the rooftop. The distance between Mi-jung standing on the rooftop and Dong-jin was now within 10 meters. At that moment, the long tape measure snapped back quickly, grazing Dong-jin's neck, and sharp pain erupted with blood seeping out. It was the moment he realized that being within that 10-meter range with Mi-jung was dangerous.
Additionally, from that injury, Dong-jin realized something else. He too satisfied all the prerequisite conditions for the "law of death" to activate. This meant that in the process of proving Mi-jung's "law of death," Dong-jin would also have to risk his life. Nevertheless, his desperate struggle, prepared to sacrifice his life to return a normal routine to Mi-jung, heightened the tension about what kind of conclusion it would reach. The sixth episode of Channel A's weekly drama "Witch" will air tonight (2nd) at 9:10 p.m.
